To add a bit of balance to this - I know Justy well off the pitch and he is the nicest fella you could meet - never a bad word to say about anyone

I dont think so, anyplayer could follow an opponent around for 70 mins sledge, pull, drag, obstruct, annoy,it would be interesting to know how many times he touched the ball.

Rory is indeed a fine player, mind you I seem to remember him engaging in the same marking "technique" as Justin McMahon last August against Neil Gallagher!!!

gallagher is always looking for trouble
seen him this year in the league game get away with murder right in front of the umpire
last sunday he started the incident with sean cavanagh and finally paid the price

The truth of the matter is that any player can be marked out of a game by going man to man like McMahon did against Murphy.

It is then up to the other players to step up & show that their team is not a one man show & Donegal did just that.

Time to move on.

Another fine role model for kids from Tyrone like Ryan McMenamin, Conor Gormley and Ger Cavalin.

I think that is the most annoying thing about Mcmahon. There is no denying he is a great defender but I lost almost all fondness I had for him last week.
People give off about tactics and that ruining the game but when you see a talented player like McMahon spend an entire game with his back to the ball its when things have really got outta hand.

People are comparing Cavanagh and McGee is wrong also. If you watch the game or even the highlights you will see mcGee played football. In fact he made alot of runs forward on the day. Dont get me wrong off the ball and after the ball is played he is probably as bad as the rest but he was there to be part of a football match, which is something I unfortunately cannot say about McMahon

Keith Higgins by a distance is the best man marker in the country although he didn't look his normal self during the bits I seen of Mayo in the league, not sure the captaincy suits him.

Where was Justin McMahon when Donegal were tearing through the Tyrone defence at will for the first 15 minutes of the game last Sunday? McMahon was nowhere to be seen for the first quarter and this was where Donegal won the game.

You're missing the point, he was sticking that rigidly to Murphy that he wasn't getting involved in the general game. His job appears to have been Murphy and Murphy only, Murphy nowhere to be seen = McMahon nowhere to be seen.

From my own county Donal Keoghan, one of the best man markers in the country. Keith Higgins, seriously good defender. Johnny cooper of the dubs. Michael Sheilds in Cork. All great defenders in the style of marking there men out of a game in a proper way.

I'm sure the brigade will be in shortly with the cries for McCaffrey etc, but half backs don't defend that much anymore so its hard to call them "old School" defenders.

Colin Walshe? Certainly ahead of Keoghan.

@benched

Colin Walshe - great shout too
Some good defenders in that Monaghan team TBF to them

Never said Keoghan was the best out there, but he'd be close to the top of the list

The biggest question from the weekend is, is this a tactic that has been forced upon Justin McMahon as its not something ive ever seen him at previously? Is Mickey Harte condoning this type of behaviour? Is he the instigator of it? Or is it a personal decision by Justin?

The simple FACT is that Donegal are through to meet Armagh & Tyrone are in the qualifiers.

At he end of the day it doesn't matter who had who in their back pocket, it's a team game & the scoreboard tells the final story.

For the record I'll repeat myself for you using small words, I have no issue with McNulty's marking of Murphy.

Gallagher is well able to look after himself, I agree. That wasn't the point of my post.

What I was pointing out that McMahon's tactics weren't a one off. Roc did the same thing the year before.

As I pointed out on another thread your own Davy Fitz is probably the biggest mouth piece in the whole country.
