Cavan vs Monaghan

Monaghan team announced and in all my years following them this is the strongest panel I have seen. Darren Hughes and Drew wylie start after a game of bluffing. A bench that contains Eoin Lennon, Colin walshe, gollogly, Kieran Duffy and Chris mcguinness will make a massive impact of the bench. I can see nothing but a Monaghan win.

Agree Shaggy, it is a savage starting team. I could see Owen Duffy dropping out and Walshe coming in to corner back. Dessie to push up as sweeper which will give Kelly and O Connell freedom to attack the flanks. That is a savage FB line with Walshe and the two wylies if Walshe does come in.

I was worried about this game but after seeing the team, I'm travelling with more confidence and if we can get a good start I think we will win with a few to spare.

Will 'sledging' play a part. Brendan Devenny said last night on Newstalk that the worst counties for 'sledging' in the country are Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan and Donegal. Will we see this on Sunday? Will refs start to clamp down on it?

Thats a serious looking Monaghan side. I think this is a big year for Monaghan. They retained their div 1 status fairly comfortably and finished the league with a strong performance against Dublin. The side named for Sunday would put it up to any of the favourites for Sam this year. I can't see them having too much trouble with Cavan.

I seriously doubt that the Monaghan team named will be the one that will start. Darren Hughes will not start. Even Eoin Lennon on the bench is unlikely. Shadow boxing

And yet they always struggle against Cavan... savage team or not they still have to perform on the day and if Cavan can mark McManus they have a great chance of causing an upset.

I agree on paper looks a quality side but it wont be the one that lines out.

the tricks and diving have started in full swing.

Monaghan put out in the week that Wylie and Hughes may not feature however both are named in the starting 15.

Monaghan name the strongest possible team they could and their strength on the subs bench however if you read the statement on the Monaghan gaa website its states The Monaghan panel of 26 for the game. This to me implies that there could be changes to any of the 26.

Cavan come out all week saying things are going well and it is their year to make real progress.

Cavan name their team with their best defender not listed and put out reports that he is injured.

Cavan do not list their subs bench in the team that is listed therefore no one knows who is on the bench so Clark may not be injured at all.

What other surprises are we in for this weekend.

Darren Hughes is not playing. If that team started we'd wipe the floor with Cavan. Unfortunately it wont!

I think Darren is going to play with the crutches !
Seriously though, we won't know the actual real starting 15 until the team is announced to the crowd before throw in.

The Monaghan side oozes class. You only have to see the game they played against a hungry Dublin side in the League Semi Final to see what they're about. Cavan will be plucky but in reality won't get within 7-8 points of Monaghan at the final whistle. Monaghan will be happy to keep ticking over and not show their hand to Donegal.

Monaghan are an ever improving force and I tip them to win this contest but this is going to be close I wager and a Cavan win would not be a shock to me, I imagine there will be s large vocal crowd in Breffni on Sunday and as local derbies go this could be a real "battle"

Monaghan will do what they need to do against cavan, without being off the bridle too much. I think they will edge for an intense spell in the start of the second half, and then all eyes will be on the next game, and of course that will mean they will be in pole position to have another crack at an ulster title. They probably are the best team in ulster at the moment, as so far as league form says and the bookies says anyhow. I think we will see them later in the year too, if they can avoid the burnout of last year.

I would read nothing into the naming of teams any more, it is hardly the end of the world if your match program doesnt say the starting 15 on the day. It is just another excuse to moan at stuff, and it is a very benign complaint indeed.

All this bluffing about who is starting and who is injured is kid's stuff.
No need for it as teams plan to play a full strength anyway.
CODOLOGY.

An absolutley brilliant article in today's Irish Times, by Malachy Clerkin, on the history of the Cavan V Monaghan derbies. . . A MUST read, even for neutrals!

Only a matter of hours now until throw in. Bring it on.

To the neutrals, this is the GAA derby you want to make it your business to attend once in your lifetime. Sure, the quality might not be great, but in terms of sheer raw passion, there is no other rivalry like it. I promise you. This is bitter. And the animosity runs deep.

To waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hardcore - we are licking our lips with statements like that! Hughes or no Hughes, you are in for a big big fight today. Our boys are up for this one and ye have never liked the sight of the blue jersey coming at ya. A couple of good years hasn't done much for your history. The sleeping giants of Ulster are ready for this one!!
