Joncarter do you have anything positive to say about anything? Your narrow-minded and generalised contributions add nothing to this board.

This is just an attack on GAA players for the sake of it. To actually suggest that GAA players are the only ones sledging is ridiculous. It goes on in every sport, but is highlighted more in the GAA because Hurling and football are man-marking games.

It says something about you fabio8 that you equate basic manners and decency with being "high and mighty".
Im not denying that its "a mans game" but my version of a mans game is one where two fellas (or teams) go out, tear into the task, play with honour, and see who comes out on top. Obviously some on here think being a man involves starting fights and shouting toxic insults into your opponents ears all game long.
Raise the bar guys.

toxic insults..what protected society have you come from??..its a man game..people are well able to handle themselves...if your looking for basic manners and decency i suggest you look at dressage or something pleasant like that...you wont find it in most sports..stop being so negative

Some on here seem to think they are in charge of what opinion you can have.
Nothing high and mighty about having a different opinion but maybe some don't like that. Tough !

So you're considered high and mighty now if you have a different viewpoint are you. Laughable comment.

Stop with the dramatics and suggesting anyone is attacking anybody, for a start if they are as thick skinned as you suggest and even a fraction of them actually read what's on here then I'm sure they will be just fine.

the only people who need to quit with the dramatics is those only interested in the negatives and overblowing anything that happens...thank god the championship is finally starting to people can actually enjoy it instead of listening to people complaining

Joncarter.....as a stand alone idea what you are suggesting is very noble,it's an idealistic notion though, and could never be implemented in a real world situation. Verbals and cynical acts are prevelant in every sport in the world and Gaelic games are no different. This stuff happens all the time in rugby, soccer and many other sports. One of the biggest "sledgers" of all time was Muhammad Ali and he is idolized the world over.

Ive no problem with two players squaring up to one another. I like the odd bit of tension, a bit of fist pumping and all that is great.
Id hate to see our games end up like some soccer games where you see opponents high fiving each other and laughing and joking together at half time etc.
But the verbals, the pre meditated stuff, where a player is very calmly trying to put his opponent off his game by talking about his family or something, its nasty stuff, and has no place in a man,s game.
And dont underestimate the damage that violence is doing to our games from a promotional point if view. Im sure there are loads of parents around the land who have been put off sending their kids to play GAA because they feel theres too much violence in the game.

other sports have issues with diving...eye gouging and serious concussion injuries..i dont think some name calling is anywhere close to the level of that in terms of parents concerns
