Dubs unfair advantage in Croke Park

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Who won the game in 06 Hill? Mayo. We lost the heads before throw in , we expended too much energy before the game and early in the game and were caught out by a team we should have beaten by 10 points.
There are Dubs in all corners of Croker on big match days I always found this Hill obsession very annoying.

Mayos decision to warm up at the hill end wasn't the reason they won the game. It's main benefit was that it showed the Mayo players that Dublins players could be rattled which they proved by holding hands and walking down to the hill together and trying to start a row. The current Dublin team would just do their own warm up at the canal end and then proceed to demolish their opponents over 70mins.

It seems completely lost on you that Meath fans (for example) can get as many Hill tickets as Dublin fans as things stand. The tickets are available to all.

The only thing that needs to change is the attitude of culchie supporters. At the moment Dublin supporters are the only ones who actually take Hill tickets in big numbers before an All-Ireland final.

There is no impediment to supporters from any county buying Hill tickets except there own need to have a gripe against the big bad Dubs.

I remember that 06 game well.I ( thanks to provincial rivalry) was neutral leaning towards Dublin before the game but then the Hill incident happened and showed up that particular Dublin side for the bullyboys that they were.It was brainless the way they reacted, totally brainless.I watched the game in a house in Galway where there would usually be NOBODY cheering for Mayo but that day everyone went crazy when McDonald scored the winner.

At a vote in 2013 whether to make Dublin play Leinster championship at home or away. Laois were the only county in Leinster to vote for taking the Dubs out of Croker, because we were drawn against them and they wanted it in O moore Park ,which is understandable. Every other county in Leinster voted for the game to be played in Croker. Because each would recieve more money from the ticket sales in croker as apposed to O Moore park.
That is the problem until this is changed we will be in Croker.
Our extra crowd allows more money to be divided between Leinster counties.
But this in the long run is not doing the smaller counties any good, although the Dubs playing outside Croker still wont help the smaller counties compete in my view. ,it will at least give some sembalance of fairness in Leinster.
Create a bit of interest , that the Leinster Championship badly needs.

ah come off it
of course mayo won the game but do not try and act like it was down to what happened before the game
that backfired on them as dublin came out on fire
the fact they won the game was down to a brilliant comeback
and some excellent scores by ciaran mcdonald
not a gimmick of running towards the hill
you know that full well.
because the ones on the hill tend to be the ones who go all over the country supporting dublin
o byrne cup and league and championship

wrong as dublin did exact same thing before every match in that season
they walked up to the hill linking arms
it was part of the blue book thing pillar had set up at the time
was nt a reaction to mayo being there
look at any other game from that season

Someone asked how dressing rooms where decided.

The answer is alphabetical order......As gaeilge.

The first game's will always have the dressing rooms under the cusack stand.

The second game will always have the dressing rooms under the Hogan stand.

The reason Dublin are almost always in the same dressing roomis because only Armagh (Ard Mhacha) comes before Dublin (Ath Cliath) alphabetically as Gaeilge.

It's not rocket science. Its not a conspiracy. Its not a favour Dublin thing. It's basic schoolboy stuff.

So, When Dublin play in Croke Park, They will be in the dressing room in the Hoganstand that is closest to the big screen down on the Nally. When the Dubs leave the dressing room's they will come out onto the corridor, Take a left into the tunnel then run onto the pitch.

Simple as that really.

The whole mentality of Pillar's team and set-up was cringworthy, I found the whole walking to the Hill thing embarrassing, thank God for Pat Gilroy!

Aontroim?
An Dun?
An Mhi?

I've seen Cavan written as both An Cabhan and Cabhan but Down and Meath always have the "An" in their name.

I was reading Philip Coutinho yesterday, saying that in the run up to the Liverpools title defining game v Chelsea last year,B Rogers had had a recording of all the players mothers saying how proud and how much they loved them.Did Rogers get advice from Pillar?Awful embarrasing claptrap!

Without the "An" lads.

So Aointrim, Ard Mhacha, Ath Cliath, Ceatharlach etc.

I think bringing in Dublin's record in and outside of Croke Park is irrelevant; that is not the point. Dublin would more than likely win no problem in Longford or Navan although it wouldnt be as easy. Playing the league matches in Croker is simply a farce. I am surprised with the financial backing that the Dubs have; that they just dont build a bigger ground- The DCB have the nest of Croker so maybe they dont think its necessary. I would love to know why the Leinster counties vetoed the sanction to play up there ?

Have to admit I was stunned when I heard that, what was wrong with their fathers, enhances the notion that most premier league players are insecure mammy's boys

I think the spring series will change quite soon. Even with Dublin on a good foot attendances have flatlined in the lesser games somewhat. I see no valid reason why Dublin should play the likes of Derry in Croke Park when Parnell will suffice.

By all means open the league in Croker against Kerry or another high profile side but the default choice is becoming tiresome at this stage.

Most teams have a big advantage when playing at home in any sport around the world. Thats a fact so the dubs do have an advantage.
I feel a minus three point handicap would be sufficient punishment for the dubs when playing at home. Would be fairer for everyone involved and dubs would feel like they have truly earned something if they do lift sam again.

Everyone outside dublin know they have an advantage but the dubs wont admit it. Might not be fully their fault that they play all their games at home but the bottom line its an advantage, simple as that and there is no need to try and spin it any other way.

Just like Kerry playing in the Gaelic Grounds (a ground they are familiar with) gives them an advantage over Mayo (who never play there).
