1753418 I should mention that Derry got to the AI minor final in 07 which didn't make much different to the seniors since then.

I often wondered where Mark Vaughan of Dublin went to?

Fell out Pat Gilroy and never got look in after that. Wasnt good enough for intercounty. Good free taker but done little from play.

In fairness to Mark Vaughan he had a lot of problems with injury too. Think it was mostly back/hamstring injuries but he never really got a chance to fulfill his potential because of them

I wonder does Kyle Coney now regret not giving the AFL a proper go.
It's one thing staying at hoem to be a success with the intercounty senior team but if not producing the county team would not be long forgeting you like in Coney's team.

Out of all young starlets in the last decade, Coney I thought was going to be next gaa superstar

Heard a rumour that he didn't turn down the AFL career but when he went out there during his medical they discovered some sort of injury and the club decided not to pursue it. As I say it's only a rumour so could be hogwash.

Any of the Tyrone posters here this? Or is it BS?

More than anything I believe and have experienced that in the younger ages it's raw talent that shines through while the work ethic and all the other attributes that make a great athlete don't play as big a role but depending on the child, sometime between 15-18 those with the talent but never had to or learned to give it everything in all aspects can not adapt, appear lazy, and really can't handle losing. Those who lacked the real natural talent but stuck it out through years on the bench or just average but learned, and wanted, desired to improve and did what was needed, those guys succeed. Getting beat doesn't make them pout, or look for blame, at least not in others. They work harder on the things they need to improve, are humble when advice is given. The keep learning, keep getting better, they become the people we talk about here.

Spot on.

Danny Doogue from laois destroyed us in an u21 semi final in 98.never heard much about him after that.
Derek Reilly was an unbelievable talent but lost interest it seemed.

What happened to Peter Donnelly from Tyrone. Won a minor and u21 All Ireland in space of a week in 2001. He looked more promising than Sean Cavanagh. Pity he never fulfilled his potential as footballer. I see his strength and conditioning coach for Tyrone now. must be only 32?

Fionn Dowling looked to be a quality forward at underage for Kildare but his confidence seems to have been knocked in recent times and it doesn't look like he's going to make it now.

That a pity. I think he suffered under the McGeeney regime where natural talent was sacrifised for workhorses Natural forward comfortable kicking off both feet

Peter Donnelly has been the S&C coach with the last 5 Ulster Under 21 championship winners (4 with Cavan and this year with Tyrone). Impressive record.

Donnelly was physically very developed as a minor, and such advantages become less noticeable as other lads mature. At senior level, I felt he lacked a yard of pace to play on the wing, and a couple of inches of height for midfield or fullback. I always felt that CHB might be his position, but he was tried just about everywhere other than there, and was never able to nail down a regular place. A good lad and now doing excellent work for our senior squad in a S&C capacity.
