What ever happened Ger Pierson at Cavan? I remember he destroyed us at u-21 level one year but never really stood out too much for Cavan seniors?

Yeah Brian Sheridan was a great prospect, but never made it at senior despite been given a few chances

I remember 20 years ago in Galway we had an incredible corner forward called Derek Reilly, who I would have tipped for stardom. By the time he was 25, I was told he wasn't making the Corofin seniors. He was a star forward on the Galway 94 & 95 minor teams. It is not always a lack of commitment as some of the posters have stated, sometimes you need a break, or a manager who believes in you. On the hurling side, Kerril wade is a guy I thought would do great things, but things need to work out for you.

Didnt he win a club medal in 1998?

Where did John Devane go to? He was about 6'8

Came across this on the internet, Galway man John Concannon. Any Galway people remember him?

Played for a few seasons at senior level. Was excellent against Armagh in Clones in 2004 Ulster Semi-final. Cavan played for 70mins with 14 men after having Pierce McKenna sent off. We lost by 2 points and Paul Hearty made an excellent save from Pearson to deny us. Think his commitment levels waned after that unfortunately.

Ray Cullivan also mentioned - very good footballer although really stood out at underage level due to his physique. Played for the seniors for a few seasons, think he was sent off in his last game v Fermanagh for fielding a ball but raising his studs to protect himself on landing.

More than anything I believe and have experienced that in the younger ages it's raw talent that shines through while the work ethic and all the other attributes that make a great athlete don't play as big a role but depending on the child, sometime between 15-18 those with the talent but never had to or learned to give it everything in all aspects can not adapt, appear lazy, and really can't handle losing. Those who lacked the real natural talent but stuck it out through years on the bench or just average but learned, and wanted, desired to improve and did what was needed, those guys succeed. Getting beat doesn't make them pout, or look for blame, at least not in others. They work harder on the things they need to improve, are humble when advice is given. The keep learning, keep getting better, they become the people we talk about here.

@ShortGrass_1 - He had so much ability. Such a pity it wasn't realised at Senior level.

@ShortGrass_1 yeah I mentioned him in an earlier post on the thread, he was the main man for them at minor, we never even worried about Joyce or Donnellan was all about stopping him.

Moyles career was cut short due to a serious knee injury as far as i remember.

Could you possibly mean Alan Durkan from Breaffy ans not Alan Duggan ??

No Alan Duggan played in county final around 96/97 for Knockmore and scored 1-6

Ger played for a few years with the county and played very well. always racked up big scores. He was on a team with Lorcan Mulvey (now London) also Rory Gallagher (now Donegal manager) jason reilly, Dermot Mccabe. We should have had a very decent team at that time. alot of naturally gifted footballers. Ger played for his club gowna for years. only quit recently. He played with the county up until about 2011. (played with some of the current crop). so he had a fair good career.

THE PROBLEM WITH LIMERICK, IS THE TRAINING OF THE TEAM ,ANY YEAR , THEY ONLY REACT TO WHAT THE OPPOSING TEAM DOES, AND NEVER
PLAY A GAME OF THEIR OWN. THEY DO NOT ANTICIPATE THE MOVEMENT OF THE BALL ,AND ARE TOO SLOW TO THE BALL, THE MANAGEMENT PUT ON A TEAM ,AND FREEZE THEM IN STONE ,AS IF IT WAS A CRIME TO MOVE PLAYERS FROM THEIR STATED POSITIONS, EVEN TAKING PLAYERS FROM THE BACKS TO THE FORWARDS ,THERE IS NO IMAGINATION FROM THE SIDELINE.FORWARDS ARE CONSTANTLY FOUND BEHIND THE OPPOSING BACKS AS THE BALL IS COMING IN ,IT MUST BE IMPRESSED ON FORWARDS TO BE IN FRONT OF BACKS AS THE BALL IS COMING IN AND TO MEET THE INCOMING BALL . THE PLAYERS MUST ALSO STAY AWARE OF WHERE THEY ARE, AND KEEP FOCUSED ON THE GAME THEY ARE PLAYING ,AND BECOME AWARE OF THE MOVEMENT OF PLAYERS ,AND BALL WITHIN THE GAME. IT IS A TRAGEDY, THAT WE WILL BE SOON LOSING THE GREAT CONSISTENT PLAYER GAVIN O MAHONEY ,WHO HAVE GIVEN ALL FOR LITTLE REWARD

There was a guy called Willie Heffernan who played for Kildare (I think Nurney was his club) and he came on for Kildare against Offaly in a qualifier match in Newbridge in 2004 and Offaly were about 10 points up early in the second half and he just cleaned us out in midfield for the rest of the agme and almost won Kidare the game.I think he was only 21 at the time but he looked like he ewas going to be an unbelievable player but I don't think I ever saw him play again.Anyone know what happened to him.

Willie Heffernan had a series of bad knee injuries. He was still knocking around the Kildare panel up until about four years ago but was only featuring sporadically in the league and O'Byrne Cup. He's still a force at midfield for Nurney in the intermediate championship.

Seamus Hennessy.

Brilliant hurler, all round good guy. Robbed by injury. Big loss to Tipperary hurling. Confined to playing full back for the club these days but he still has it. You'd feel he might make a big contribution again somewhere along the way, if not as a player.

I should mention that Derry got to the AI minor final in 07 which didn't make much different to the seniors since then.

I often wondered where Mark Vaughan of Dublin went to?
