It's a shame, but I reckon it is hard enough for club players to be dual, never mind about intercounty.

Part of the reason the games are on a Saturday, a lot of the hurlers across all 3 lower tiers will probably be playing football for their club on the Sunday. There should be a gap weekend between each game. An issue is Croker is probably tied up for a concert in late June. There's costs as well for keeping the inter-county show on the road. Football dominated county boards will want to call a halt to the hurling costs. Some hurling counties have the same attitude to the football.

The open race for McCarthy hurling starts tomorrow. Automatic promotion to the qualifier group gives all teams an extra incentive. Kerry rightly favourites based on the league. That hasn't transferred into championship silverware since 2011. In some ways the relegated London are possibly the most dangerous team in the championship. It'll be interesting now to see how it all unfolds.

Kerry 2-17 Down 2-10
Kerry up and running in the championship. Into 2A. Down into 2B but can't lose any more games or they are out.

Big win for Kerry today, because there was always a danger that their league success, and subsequent celebration, might have been a distraction coming into the championship, or left a hangover. But it hasn't, and I can't see anyone stopping Kerry now, they mean business.
Sounds like it was a great game in Ruislip, London are difficult to beat at home, where will the replay take place?

Have to say though, the significant result for me is Tyrone's win v Donegal in the Nicky Rackard. Its says alot that Tyrone lost out to Donegal in the league promotion/relegation play-off, but prevailed today in the championship, they should really have been promoted automatically. But thats a big win today, I think they're going to win it out again. If they do, I'd love to see them in the Christy Ring next year.

Can any Tyrone posters speak to the hurlers growth over the past few years? From the outside looking in, it seems like there's tremendous work being done with the senior team, and the progression is notable(Lory Meaghar champions 2012, then Nicky Rackard Champions 2014, won Division 3b in 2014, won promotion, and then won Division 3A this year at the first go). Is the progress as significant as it seems?

Derry beat Mayo 13pts to 11pts, well done to the Mayo senior Football management, ye wouldn't let 1 of our best hurlers play today because ye were afraid he would be injured for the football match in 6 weeks time even though ye allow him to play football for his club in the mean time, ye ruined our football league campaign and now our Christy Ring champ, well done, take a bow

Very disappointed with the result today, especially since we were 6pts ahead by half time. Keith Higgins would definitely have scored one or two if he was allowed play - just 2 of our players scored. Our performance needs to improve seriously if we want get through Round 2b.

The London Kildare draw will see a number of games pushed back a week. There really should be two weekends between rounds to allow for replays. One 2A game and one 2B game will be pushed back a week, as will the resulting quarter-final and semi-finals. Any more draws and the final will be pushed back a week.

Good win for the Kingdom today, although the standard was a little poor at times and I was disappointed that more people didn't bother to show up to support the great work our hurlers are doing. I suppose a 1pm throw in didn't help matters in the latter regard.

That number 14 for Down is some beast of a man!

Agreed, schedule is way too tight for non-league format competition, replays are always a possibility.

Meath and Derry are a threat. With Kildare and London going to a replay, there'll be no easy 2A match. My preference is to get Derry or Meath. 2A winners go on to the semi-finals. Be great at this stage if our lads can maintain momentum and claim a semi-final spot.

+1

It's a shame the GAA are in such a rush to run this ultra competitive championship off so quickly. If they were serious about promoting hurling in these counties we could have these lads hurling all summer and playing curtain raisers to big Liam McCarthy matches - drier sod, bigger crowds, tv highlights etc.

Kildare got out of jail in normal time yesterday although Gerry Keegan's return off the bench is a huge boost. There probably isn't a better finisher in the competition. Tough on the dual players in the squad who will miss out on the club football championship next weekend.

Ah come on now. Sure that would only be sensible and fair. The GAA can't be at that craic. Lets get these minnows out of the way asap and get on to the real stuff with matches every 3-4 weeks. Cant be letting these minnows get better and challenge the big boys. Don't you know hurling is for Cork, Kilkenny and Tipperary and everyone else is just there for show.

Meath will be a tough opponent. They are consistently making semi-finals. Kerry are the form team. Hopefully we'll book a place in the semi-finals.

Keep an eye on Down this year as they are making a little progress game by game. I was pleasantly surprised by our performance in Tralee and will be interested to see what we can do if we can negotiate our way past Wicklow (very tricky draw). All in all great competition! #CRC2015

I'd favour Down to make the quarter-finals. The loser will be in the relegation play-off, with the loser of that taking on the Rackard winner.

Great to be back in an All-Ireland semi-final. Meath gave us the tough game I expected.

London have shown the threat they are at this level. Should be an interesting 2A game next weekend against Derry. Kildare will be expected to get their championship back on track against Mayo, though it'll be a tough game.

Down as I expected have their championship back on track.

It's likely to be Wicklow and Mayo in the relegation play-off. The loser of that will take on the Rackard winner.
