Sean Cavanagh - Injury

Interesting thread, coming up to the big game in 2 weeks. I really hope Kavanagh can play in the game. I dont expect him to start to be honest. I do expect Tyrone to be a different team than the one who played in ballybofey lat march. I think that we might even see one or 2 u21s being draughted in this year. They have some great talent, and their senior team could be bolstered up no end by their inclusion.

It would have been a strange move to drop the reigning footballer of the year against the team that were favourites for the All Ireland at the time!

In 12 years, I don't believe Harte has ever dropped him for a championship game.

I watched him for 60 minutes in a division 1 club game on Sunday. Aside from taking a while to get his shooting radar going, he played quite well. More importantly, he moved well on a very wet/heavy pitch, and made a couple of big runs down the middle in the 2nd half. Mickey gambled by starting Stevie O'Neill on many occasions, and often he wasn't remotely fit. Unless Sean has a setback, he'll definitely start.

As for the 2009 debate, as I said earlier, Sean pulled himself out of that game. As I understand it, Harte's version of events in his book, though he should never have written it (especially while still manager), is accurate. It wasn't food-poisoning - Sean just didn't feel like he could play that day. Nothing more to it, and anyway, he's given us more than enough down the years.

He knew by withdrawing from cork game in 09 that tyrone would have less chance of winning. Therefore avoiding a defeat to kerry who were unstoppable that year.
Good trick to save face..
