Exactly. We could do better but we could do a lot worse. This minor team is decent and lost to a very good Longford team.

My point is if we got the millions Dublin got specifically for underage then we'd be competing for minor all irelands most years.

And it's vital because rugby and soccer are very strong underage in meath particularly soccer.

Look that's a good Meath minor team. Management needs yo answer questions, we get a second bite of the cherry. Don't mess up again.

I will agree with you there, but the likes of Longford who are a small county have done great work at underage.I think this Meath team should have done better.

Well done Longford great result, Longford the smallest county in Lenister have been the most competitive at minor/ under 21 level bar the dubs and maybe Kildare in Leinster. Jack_Goff your post is ridiculous how has Dublin's resources anything to do with Meath failing behind a county with a fifth of the population of Meath and a lot less resources. Indeed the combined populations of Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon is about the same as Meath and all 3 would have less resources but all 3 have a lot better under age records despite all 3 been in very competitive provinces. Sceptical Roscommon are in a weaker position as Sligo have a good competitive game under there belts while we are going in cold and of course there is no back door in Connaught. Royaldunne how do Meath have a second chance are the not out?

I think every province is different in relation to the minor back door thing. I know there is no back door in connacht and ulster apart from the provincial loser. But i believe in munster it's quite hard to get knocked out (I think Tipp had to beat Kerry 3 times one year). Not sure what the story is in Leinster. can someone enlighten us.

Exactly you are 100% correct..

I am slagging counties like Longford etc, they deserve all the credit, but Meath have to take a hard look at themselves and ask themselves why good talented players are not developing and the answer is simple and obvious! The coaches are not good enough and a lot of them are not near qualified enough.I know this as fact! You need elite coaches or people who have played the game at a high level to develop and teach kids.Meath are not doing this. The players are not the problem. The coaching system is.

My mistake, i was thinking about finalist getting second shot.
Again well done to Longford and a thank you for your efforts and farewell to Meath minor management.

I would not blame the management 100%,they do have to take some of the blame, but I think the blame lies further back and whoever is in charge of bringing in coaches to develop the kids from U14 to U16.Most of the coaches are good honest people doing there best, but they have very little experience, knowledge. We need proper coaches who ahev played the game at a good level and know what needs to be done.

Yes of course you would, just ask Tipp, Donegal, Tyrone and Monaghan who got milli.... oh wait!!! Money doesn't buy you good players or organisation and hard work at underage level. You're spending 10m or thereabouts on a centre of excellence. If that doesn't bear fruit then you really will have no excuses.

no point spending 10mill on a centre of excellence without good coaching structures

I agree ziggy the proper coaching isn't been done. We have been very slow getting a professional coaching structure into Meath.
And that is no disrespect to the hundreds that do it for the love of it, but unfortunately these days that's not enough

If this continues,we will get worse instead of better, that is my concern, are they waiting until we become a far weaker county?

I was at an underage recruitment drive in Crokes on the Southside a couple of years ago, and honestly the facilities there, and what the club could afford to lay on for the kids and parents was unbelievable.

No way any club in Kildare or Meath could hope to compete with that.

True, but you don't have to spend millions to get things right. The underage coaching structure in Meath is weaker than an awful lot of counties.
