The Top 6 football teams in the country now.

Mayo
Donegal
Dublin
Cork
Kerry

Any of the above would have a good chance of beating any of the others on a given day.

After that Monaghan, Tyrone, Down, Roscommon & Armagh would be capable of causing an upset, outside of that nothing.

Riverview. You could do that but then you are excluding the likes of Kerry who should get to last 4 , also Meath and Roscommon finished on level points and Meath beat down. I agree with you that basing teams on leagues is very tricky, look at Derry last year.

When Cork beat Kerry in the Munster final, then and only then could they be rated a top six team. Roscommon, Galway, Meath and Monaghan have as good a claim for the top six after the top 4 of Donegal, Dublin, Kerry and Mayo

I see plenty are judging Armagh on last year form since then they have lost key players to retirement and few other have not been able to commit. In div 3 they were very lucky to beat Tipp and drew at home to Fermanagh and shipped a heavy defeat to Sligo or be it they were already promoted before that Sligo game.

Donegal,Kerry,Cork,Mayo,Monaghan,Dublin are all near certain last eight sides at least and i think Galway could reach the All Ireland quarter final again however they have long way to go before toppling the likes of Dublin,Kerry,Cork. Almost every year has a surprise side in the last eight Cavan,Roscommon,Meath,Derry,Down could be that team this summer.

1714101 Just a thought...Bar the Ulster final last year, when was the last time Donegal beat Monaghan?

Prior to the Ulster final last year, Donegal beat Monaghan in the National League last year in Letterkenny. Think they won by 7 points.

Yes in League. You have to go all the way back to 1983 for last Donegal Championship win over Monaghan prior to Ulster Final Last year.

But the question was clear, and the answer was equally as clear.

Donegal beat Monaghan twice last year.

Have to agree with Muckross head there. We are still well off top 4/5 but at least we are well established in the top 10. Pity for Royal Dunne that what if this and what if that Meath didn't get ur mention. Must be getting harder and harder to take. Maybe they might give the dubs a better rattle in the hurling'!!!

Lets get real here, Tyrone are barely in the top 6 in Ulster right now let alone Ireland!

Irrelevant who wins Munster. We get to the quarter finals every year and we are in the league semi-finals every year so that suggests we are not top 4 but we are probably about 5/6 - I say this objectively because our results say that we are top 6. However, like every other team, we want to be top 1. That is all that matters. Kerry are there now.

This disscussion is about the top 6 is interesting

I'd go

Dublin-(in the quater final at ease and team to beat at the minute so much depth in the squad)
Kerry-(all-Ireland champs and goouch and Tommy walsh added has to give them a great chance)
Cork-(finally seem to be coming good and have very dangerous forwards)
Mayo-(easy path to quaters counts for alot talent still there)
Monaghan-(good show last week 3 players back now and win one tricky game and in the ulster final)
Donegal-(Good league form but tough ulster draw could see them struggle a bit)

Best of the rest??
Hard to call with Tyrone(talent and know how) Meath(easy route to leinster final) and Rosscommon(easy path to connacht final and good form)will probably being in last 16 and have a chance of an upset.

Laois/Kildare/Galway all 3 have very good qualifer records and always reach at least last 16 but they will have to do it the hard way to even reach the last 8

Armagh,Down and Derry are on hard side of ulster so back door draw will be vital its hard to say where they will end up.

After that Cavan/Westmeath or Tipperary might cause the odd shock and get to croker at some stage but won't play any major part...

For the other 15 it would be a major shock/bonus/suprise if any of them reach the last 8 but you never know!!!

Nobody really knows how good Armagh, Donegal or Tyrone will find out soon enough .

I would think Dublin are the best. I literally think there is nothing between Kerry, Cork, Mayo and ourselves. Monaghan can beat us but strangely I wouldnt fancy them against Mayo or Cork.

Well done Monaghan, had the Dubs beat, Dublin are no 1, Kerry, Cork, Monaghan, Donegal, for me no 6 would have to be Roscommon, no disrespect to Mayo, who are still a top 10 team, Meath, Down, Tyrone, Armagh, Derry, Cavan, Fermanagh, Galway, all of these could cause upsets, Kildare ????????????????????????????, Monaghan favorites for Ulster, dark horses Cavan, the west Rossies to win, dark horses Mayo, Leinster Dublin, Dublin, Dublin, wont be stopped, or for Sam, dark horses Meath, Munster, kerry, cork,
