Kerry hurlers retain 2A title

@ Isolatedantrim - what you have not factored in is the advantage Antrim have going into the game of having tested themselves against tougher opposition.
Win your level, you deserve to be promoted. Offaly players admitted Kerry should have gone up last year. Your comments say a lot about your county. Congratulations on that. You must be proud.

County: Antrim
Kingdomboy1- Don't fall into the trap of having a go at Antrim because of structures that were put in place by others to ensure that the 'elite' of hurling stay 'elite'. There is lip service paid to the notion of teams outside the elite making any progress towards the top table. I would also be upset at not getting automatic promotion.

Ah listen, this is getting a bit much, who are these 'others'? I also don't think the needs of developing counties are being served well by our competition structures, and agree with the sentiments of most people on here who have complained about promotion/relegation play-offs being required. But I am getting really sick of people blaming the 'elite' hurling counties for the ills of everyone else. All these structures get voted on. The counties that would be considered hurling 'elite' are actually in a minority. If the delegates from the county boards and provincial councils that represent the developing counties, who are in the majority, voted against structures and changes that have a perceived negative effect on most developing counties, there wouldn't be a problem. But they don't. The delegates they send are either ambivalent to hurling, or see it as a distraction to football in the county/province. The way the Ulster council has treated its own hurling competitions and teams over the past few years has been nothing short of appalling. That's not Corks fault.

Of course, the people I feel most sorry for here are the hurling people of Antrim, Derry, Armagh, Kerry etc who are getting let down by their own county boards and provincial councils. But there's little point at having a go at Cork, Kilkenny, Tipp etc for caring about the best interests of their hurlers, the blame really lies county/provincial boards who don't serve the needs of their own hurling teams.

kerry hurlers are benefiting from the outside player rule as are kildare not sure how thats suppose to be good for hurling in these countys, at least westmeath and meath play their own lads, bad rule imo. so if they beat antrim or not cant complain.

see page 5 of the above - ( i think the proposal got enacted) if kerry win christy ring they go into leinster qualifier group and if they get through have the opportunity of munster quarter final -

Think 1 automatically up/down between 1A/1B/2a with a playoff between 2nd last 1a/Runner up 1B and 2nd last 1B/Runner up 2a woudl be better

And thats this 1a 1b crack etc - should it not be division 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc

Response: Kerry had one outfield player last saturday that was an "outsider", When westmeath beat Kerry in the Christy Ring Cup Final they had the Smyths from Portumna playing with them. But lets not let facts get in the way eh?

Is this a serious question? Kerry are one of the strongest teams outside of the main Hurling counties.

Is the keeper not from Tipp too, a former minor? I see he has to decide whether to play for his club in Tipp or play for Kerry at the weekend. Not a fan of bringing in players from other counties as Kerry & Kildare have done.

I think it's crazy that 2A is the only division where you can win it, get a trophy and still end up back there again as Kerry have found out. They should have went up last year. Chances are this weekend they will lose, only because they have played in a division where the pace is not the same.
Antrim have lost all games, but played Limerick, Waterford, Wexford which will sharpen you up and those games are played at a pace that 2A games are not. Kerry had to play Wicklow & London, so no comparison there.

I'd love to see Kerry win but would be surprised.

Kerry have been strong in Division 2A and the Christy Ring Championship for years. Our senior club champions compete strongly at Munster Intermediate level. We accept our level and get on with the game. Lovely hurling!

Christy Ring counties should be allowed to compete in the Intermediate hurling championship. It's about the level they are at and the games would be good for them them. It would give a fairer reflection of where those counties are.

Congratulations to the Kerry hurlers on promotion. Fully deserved and hard earned after back to back 2A titles.

Kerry competed well in the last Division 2 of 8 teams back in 2011. Kerry can again look forward to taking on Clare and Limerick. Tough games but games they need. Top 12 in the league. Impressive stuff!!!

I think you'll find it's the same in Division 1A :P

Fair play to Kerry. They seemed to come out of the blocks a little slower this year but have now truly shown that they're worth their place in Division 1B. It may also be heartening for the other teams in 2A as it was a very tight division this year.

Well done to the Kerry hurlers, they and Laois have shown what Antrim hurling has shamefully lacked for a long time; fight and fire in their bellies. I would say Kevin Ryan shouldn't take all the blame for this but he will have no alternative but to stand down now. It is probably unfair to blame Ryan, the players in my opinion are at fault here, but Ryan will have no real support or confidence in him now after relegation to the doldrums of hurling.

Well done to the Kerry hurlers. Great to see a county outside of the hurling region get into 2nd tier, best of luck in 1B.

Blaming the manager or players??? They're the ones usually doing their best! It's the lads who are good enough but who aren't prepared to put the shoulder to the wheel that I'd blame. Feel sorry for Ryan & the likes of Neil McManus.
