All Ireland Champions be be relegated?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

DUBJOHN - your comments about last year stink of resentment. Get over it. Sure Dublin were handed the All Ireland by the ref (Joe McNally was it?) in 2011 and by Mayo failing to show up in 2013. If yee're lucky enough to get favorable ref's in a few games, yee might have a chance again this year.

Yerra it could be worse, we could one of those sides that can only manage to score 2 points in an entire 35 minutes of football in Croker, eh Jimbo??

I don't think relegation would have been predicted by many in the kingdom at the start of the campaign so it would be a set back in my view. All Ireland winners don't tend to come from outside the top tier. No team wins anything of serious worth in spring but it does indicate what may be expected later on. I'd put Kerry as favourites this weekend but Tyrone need a performance. Kerry tend to start slow and finish strong in the league but losing the last two games should be of some concern if it transpires. MH needs a performance too, I suspect the questions are being asked in Tyrone and he needs a response. I doubt it will be pretty but considering the stakes it will be interesting.

Kerry are probably the only team by where getting relegated (which I think they will avoid anyway) will not effect them one bit come championship. Dublin are probably in the same bracket.

Could be a blessing in disguise if Kerry go down. They'll be spared a whipping by the mighty Breffni boys in Tralee next year. Wahey..

A sure as long as Dublin, the self proclaimed 'saviours of Gaelic football' can keep giving us exhibitions like last Saturday ;)

It wouldn't be a big deal if Kerry were relegated this season, It wouldn't be because Kerry were poor or deserved to be relegated. Division 1 is so congested, that there is a very fine line between relegation and League Semi Final.

I didn't think Donegal deserved to be relegated in 2013 either, but a referee Injury and subsequent dodgy decisions by his replacement took the game away from them and allowed Dublin a draw.

I would prefer a 10 team division 1, with 1 relegation spot. But in saying that, Division 2 is looks like being very strong next year regardless of who goes down.

stop dreaming my friends. Kerry will bate Tyrone out the gate on Sunday, the steel is gone out of Tyrone.
They have lost their backbone.

The last two weekends have shown the league's importance with the football and hurling champions needing a result to preserve top tier league status. The league really is about being in the top tier and preparing for championship.

Despite the loss to Cork in Trale, I was quietly confident after last year's league that we could win the All-Ireland. Of the last 6 All-Ireland champions, 3 have gone out in the following All-Ireland quarter-finals and 3 in the semi-finals. While my heart naturally wants us to win, my head based on our current league form would see us possibly falling upon the same faith as the last 6 champions. The Ulster runners-up in a quarter-final or the Ulster champions in the semi-finals is the dangerzone of our championship. It's what the championship is about. Let's lock and load!!

Yes fair play

Great game

Enjoy sitting around for weeks... Dubs hopefully have two big games in CP ahead of us against top teams

Another bit of practice against top notch defensive set-up / counter attack teams or a game against high flying Cork

The league has served it's purpose very well this year - Jim Gavin has done a fine job bringing in the new faces who are playing very well
