Not for me.Im a traditionalist in this regard.3.30pm on the Sunday.Nice weekend build up.Few drinks on the Saturday.Meet up with the pals/family on the Sunday morning for a few.Devour the papers.By 3.30 your primed to burst(not just the bladder).Something special about All Ireland day on a Sunday. And being self employed,no problem in taking the Monday off to recuperate. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 31/03/2015 21:09:33 1709197 Link 0 |
Can't agree with that idea, was at plenty of qualifier matches on a Saturday evening and travelling to and fro on a Saturday especially for evening games is a pain in the backside, not many can travel as some people work Saturdays. Stick with the traditional Sunday final, the craic having to get everybody out of bed early Sunday morning, the gressy fry up on the way to Dublin, the heavy match traffic at Rathowen and Ballinlack, the panic for parking either at the train stations or around Croker Park, the craic outside the gathering locations usually pubs or hotels before the game even better when people can't get a drink as pubs are still closed, the excitement and banter during the minor and senior game, the disappointment of losing yet again another final, the complaining about the ref or the players or management or the wrong tactics used, the quiet after that, the traffic jams at Ballinlack, Rathowen and every part of Roscommon, the farmer in the slow tractor who decides that 7 or 8 o'clock is the best time to drive his tractor on the N5 and delay keep hundreds of cars, the bag of chips on the way home, the rush in the door to see who got man of the match, the anger of missing it due to those flipping farmers in their slow tractors, the anger of the Sunday game starting at 9.30 when the supporters haven't passed Langford at that time, the talk yet again of where the game went wrong, the late to bed and still can't believe another final lost, the 'don't talk to me about the game on Monday thing and so forth, jayses thinking about it I can't wait until September no matter who reaches the final. Best of luck to all counties in both football and hurling Championships riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 01/04/2015 12:31:05 1709379 Link 0 |
So the main proble with this idea seems to be expenses. I think that the GAA could do with a better pre match spectacle before the game. This isn't trying to 'America up' anything as one user said, it's just trying to add a buzz and advertise the two biggest days on the irish sporting calender better. There has to be something done more appealing then both counties flags being waved in the middle of the pitch. Why not fireworks as the team enters the pitch. Why not county colour smoke people set off. Why not before the game a big countdown on the big screen from 10 second until throw in. Some suggestions. Again people mighnt like the idea as they think it may be turning into a Super Bowl affair but it's not going to go that way, god help us the day when there is as much a fuzz made over the coin toss then a goal PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 01/04/2015 13:51:03 1709441 Link 0 |

Just read on the internet, sun set occurs on the first of September at around 14 minutes past 8, so I presume it would be dusk 20-25 minutes later PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 01/04/2015 14:48:36 1709479 Link 0 |
