Most underrated player at it again

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Yesterday saw yet another master class by the best half back in Ireland Dessie Mone he kicked four points and was outstanding throughout, he is the best player in the last 10 years never to win an all star. Does it week in week out and doesn't get the credit he deserves just because he's not from Dublin,Donegal,Mayo or Kerry.

He's a fine player shaggy but very few All Stars are handed to players from teams who don't win provincial titles. One provincil title in 10 years was always going to make things difficult for him

Not saying I agree with the system but it is loaded towards performances in August & September.

How he has never got an all star is beyond me. He has been Monaghan's best player for years now. Four times nominated for an all star but never gets the individual accolades he deserves.

Excellent half back.i always had him in my fantasygaelic team but always had to change him come start of august as Monaghan never made it past the quarters, pity.

He is also underrated in his capacity to dive for frees I feel, in his many sorties forward each game. On that aspect alone, he might have had a career diving for penos in the Premiership too.

Hoganstand have Dessie down as a half forward on their team of the week.. in actual fact he played as sweeper the whole of the match but when he went forward carrying the ball out of defence he scored 4 long range shots that any forward in the country would have been proud off. He really is an inspirational player..

Good going forward and a good player in general but there are better half backs out there in fairness.

That's fair enough Muckross, but the year we did win Ulster he was consistently top class, and the performance he put in against yourselves in the final was one of the best by a wing-back in a while imo. And in fact last year when I think the HB line was much more open, he was even better and was excellent all year. Even in our bad defeats he was our best player and never gave up trying.

Obviously the way we lost to Dublin meant any awards would be unlikely, but he was motm a few times in the championship last year as well as the Division 2 league final if I remember right. I think I'm right in saying it's actually rare enough that the all stars come exclusively from the last 4, so while losing in the quarters makes it tough, it's not impossible.

Hopefully we get far enough again this year for him to be the running again, there's no man I'd rather see win one. Does anyone know the record for amount of nominations without a win? Because Dessie must be near that at this stage, not a record anyone would want.

James McCarthy 2015 allstar V Dessie Mone. I would pick Dessie over him every single time.

Don't think he is under rated .I'd imagine he'd be close to most peoples best fifteen in Ireland (he's in mine).I can't think f too many wingbacks that are better than him.

To be honest I think Darren Hughes is slightly underated .Brillaint footballer who would improve every team in Ireland and he's really versatile aswell

He might get a run out in the league for our boys alright to give him a chance. You never know with a few injuries in the half back line he could sneak into our championship panel but space is limited.

In 2007 when he played corner back he held Benny Coulter, Paddy Bradley, Owen Mulligan, Brendan Devenny and Colm Cooper to a goal from play between them.
No other player optimises pride and heart more than Dessie. Once in a generation player who is probably more deserving of all stars than the current Monaghan players on that have them.

Not talking about all stars at all. Just citing a player who doesn't get the credit he deserves
