Guess Who's Back?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Relax lads. He's back on the panel and it's only March. Kerry mgt are dead right to take a look at him again. If he's not up to it come summertime, they won't be afraid to drop him off the panel.

If he is up to it, I'm really looking forward to seeing him in action. Great player when he's on song. His footballing ability was often overlooked because of his tendency to get involved in off the ball stuff.

pdempsey, strange you had the polar opposite view on mayo giving gavin duffy a chance to prove himself in the exact same manner.

Actually lads why was Duffy dropped? Did he get any game time at all? Was he just not bothered/up to the standard. You would think a professional athlete would have offered the group something...

Paul must have some spare time on his hands for the next few months.
If he does well why not, give himself one last push at another chance of an all ireland

For Kerry though think we may not need him as much as we did. We have some look lads starting to make a name for themselves like Michael Geaney, Johnny Buckley. They are no galvins like he was in his prime but these guys are the future of Kerry and just wondering is it worth bringing Galvin back if it to the detriment of some of the younger lads coming through.

Personally I think galvin was slowing down and 2013 was the right time for him to go.
But if can add something from the bench it will be for the benefit of kerry but hopefully not to setback of a young pretender

Pdempesy his footballing ability was never overlooked no matter how much trouble he got in everyone knew he was a great player no matter what. Pundits and media saying he might play in the half backs ? The man's legs are gone it would be a wing forwards dream having someone that slow marking them in Croke Park, I honestly think some ex players giving there opinions haven't a clue.

Good news for Kerry because Galvin obviously thinks this Kerry team are going to stay on top for the immediate future, I'd say he thought the opposite 12 months ago, then again, so did a lot of people!

Realdub in other words he jumped off what he thought was a sinking ship but now he thinks the good times might be back and he wants to be part of it! Very honourable indeed!

The attraction is there for him now in fairness. The baggy jersey and flappy shorts were objectionable to the fashionistas. This year's Kerry kit comes with slim fitting jersey and skinny shorts.

I really don't see Spllane's point I mean what have Kerry got to lose? If it works and Galvin makes a telling contribution over the next few months (which I think he will) then great. If his not able to make an impact, then so what?

Its not as if Kerry are struggling and that pressure will be heaped on Galvin to preform. We won Sam without him last year so he knows that he has no right to walk onto the team and that he is starting from scratch again and will have to prove his worth in order to be involved. Fitzmaurice is not the sort of man to let family considerations come before what's best for Kerry football he is as ruthless as they come.

It will also be another check against some of the other panel members getting too complacent and working harder to keep him out of the side.

In the end this is not a gamble for the Kerry management it is a personal one for Galvin. He is the man putting his legacy and reputation on the line. Personally I think his record will always speak for itself even if this venture is a failure.

But Paul has the earned the right through everything he did for Kerry football to ask for one more shot at it. I think I speak for everyone in Kerry when I say I can't wait to see him run out in the green and gold again.

Class is permanent, just ask Maurice Fitz!

Of course it's a gamble by Fitzmaurice his whole reputation is on the line bringing back his brother in law if kerry don't win Sam which they did last year without Galvin he will get slated even if it's nothing to do with Galvin kerry folk who you call "animals" yourself will say Galvin was a distraction we didn't need and that Fitzmaurice put family before kerry football. That's my opinion anyway and if he wasn't family he would not be back on the panel IMO.

@themaster - you are incorrect yet again my friend.

My view on Gavin Duffy was that he needed to prove himself at club level before he was given a chance with Mayo. He didn't prove himself at club level yet was still given a chance with mayo. Doesn't stack up in my view. It'd be like Padraig Harrington rocking up to Dublin hurling training and expecting to be on the panel straight away.

Comparing a rugby player who didn't win very much to a gaelic football player who has won a few all ireland's doesn't really make sense in anyways!

Hard to know hermit, Im of the same thinking as yourself, particularly when we have someone like Danny Kirby starting the next day at midfield, and duffy is supposed to have been very good in that position against clare (marking gary brennan) in a challenge, you would think he would be in the mix at least. Even if he never played, to have a former Ireland rugby international involved in your squad could only be positive. To my mind, the managers should have broadened their thinking a bit with this, and they have missed a trick by dropping him. Saying that, there was a clash between a game and his work a few weeks back, and it was made very public, which to me seems quite strange. Probably a bit more to the story than meets the eye.

Intersting. Did Galvin say to Fitzmaurice in conversation at the inlaws that he felt he had another year in him and felt good . Fitzmaurice then said well if you want to train with us you can and we will see how it goes.
Personally i think Fitzmaurice should have said no and cut it dead, there and then .
But sure if it works hes a genuis ,
