To my learned Cork friend = regarding the Carlow Westmeath football game a number of years ago when a Cork referee was hung out to dry by the authorities for his interpretation of the new rules at the time - his name was not John O'Keefe - it was Niall ------. Cannot remember his surname! But yes, he was left out to dry, he took incredible abuse from all quarters which was unfair as he had been given an interpretation of the rules BEFORE there was any national referees meeting and hence agreed interpretation of the rules for referees.

Niall Barrett (Carrigtwohil) then. I thought it was John O'Keeffe (St Michaels). I stand corrected.

Excellent post Carlowman. You ought to start up a separate thread though as this current one was set up for the usual motives, as hinted at by you.

bennybunny. I think it was Niall Collins, and yes, he was castigated for applying the new rules in that game. Funnily the rules were not applied as rigorously in later games involving the bigger teams.

I think you are mixing up Michael Collins (Clonkility) with Barret...that particular ref was definitely from Cork..I don't recall a Niall Collins though..that doesn't mean there was not one..that name does not ring a bell

The referee for that infamous game between Carlow and Westmeath was Niall Barrett. His treatment by the authorities at the time was disgraceful.I think he became chairman of his club a few years ago. Being chairman just shows how some people overcome difficulties and retain a heavy involvement in their club. A decent man and a good GAA man.

Red card rescinded, good decision in my opinion. I think for the league we should bring in a system where if you pick up 3 yellow cards in different league games you receive a one match ban and miss your next league match. For example, normally if you get 2 yellows in the same game you are not suspended, but under this new rule if you did pick up two yellows and then picked up one yellow in another league game you are suspended for a game.

Wildpundit you seem to be very sensitive about my coments as a person living near the Tipp Border I see people directing abuse at us from last August Tipp people were out destroying walls sign posts etc I wonder if it was the other way around what would be said. You should read my comments properly see who I was directing my post to.

Kilkenny can give it but they have taken it. Padraig Maher 2012 semi v Kilkenny. Benny Dunne 2009. TJ Reid broken knee cap 2012 final, Donal O Grady on Joey Holden last year. Just some examples

Give it a rest johnwhite. You get morons in every county.Im sure the same percentage of amadans are in Kilkenny as they are in Tipp or Cork/Dublin etc.Why bring silly stuff like painting on walls up?It may be wiser to concentrate on the good, decent fans,of which there are many.
