Under 21's football

We done what was needed to win the game very easily tonight. Did not even get out of second gear. I do not want to come across condescending, harsh or mean spirited but Sligo offered nothing all night and they are in dire need of looking at things. We were there prior to 2006 and mammoth effort has gone in to getting us where we are today. Galway or Mayo will big a huge hurdle for us and one that we can look forward too. Good to see a competitive streak between the top 3 in Connacht now and that's going to be the case soon at Senior level as well. Hope we remain injury free going forward, and on wards and upwards. Ps: Mr Pundit can you give us a smidgen of credit please!

Good to see Antrim still in the competition. On a serious note though have to thank the wifes bums and tums as otherwise I would have had a long journey from North Antrim down to Armagh wasted - can we organise a whip round here to get money in the meter at the Athletic Grounds so there is no more repeats of tonight. They should refix the match for Antrim as a goodwill gesture and given that we had to play both matches away last year against the same opposition - first game was in Armagh, second in Newry.

Great result for us tonight..big crowd there too. Kerry were everybody's favourites but our lads performed brilliantly..Brian O'Driscoll was immense as was Stephen Cronin, Peter Kelleher etc. Kerry have managed to beat us once this century in this under 21 championship (2008) ...if we could have a quarter of that senior level I would be happy..

Yep late goal from Ryan McHugh got them the win, which will give him redemption for an earlier penalty miss.

Cavan were going for the their 5th Ulster U21 title in a row, but in fairness Donegal should have won Ulster U21 last season, being 2 points up with 2 mins left. Donegal were the last side in Ulster to defeat them too, when Jim McGuinness guided Donegal to the 2010 Ulster U21 title.

A break in Cavan's dominance

I suppose all good things have to come to an end Gary and if you are going to bow out Donegal aren't a bad team to do it to. 4 in a row still impressive.

Some win for Roscommon but be warned... that game will have done you no favours!

Our U21s haven't faced a non contest like last night since we face Meath in Jan, but at least Sligo managed more than 0-1 in 60mins. Doesn't do us much favours alright as we now move onto the Connacht final against Mayo or Galway which will be a major hurdle for us to jump.

Surprised to see Kerry knocked out so soon having seen them up close in Gort however clearly Cork have another top U21 team. Bad way for Cavan to get knocked but its been a great run for them at this level.

Well done to Tyrone,Monaghan,Donegal,Roscommon,Dublin,Kildare,Tipp,Cork on their wins last night it promises to be another top U21 knock out championship.

Dublin,Roscommon,Tyone,Cork are favorites to win Leinster,Connacht,Ulster,Munster but the likes of Kildare,Mayo or Galway,Armagh or Monaghan,Tipp will all fancy their chances also.

Yeah to win 4 x Ulster U21 titles in a row is a huge achievement for Cavan, not mention how they narrowly lost the 2010 Ulster U21 final, which was also to Donegal.

The question now is whether or not this prolonged U21 success will show dividends at senior level for Cavan, as to date their senior side has been lacking. While Donegal's Intermittent underage success, has reaped a huge amount of talent for their senior team. It's difficult to get the blend right sometimes.

Super win by our young men this evening in a cracking game of open football. Delighted to get through it, we never wear the mantle of favourites easily. Really game performance by Galway as well. I think standard in Connacht at this level has been very high for last 5 years.

Well done to Ros u-21 on another title. Diarmuid Murtagh is the best young talent in the country IMO. Consistently delivers top performances. Hope they win it out now.

While im certainly hopeful our underage success leads to senior success, theres a difference in the current Cavan set-up vs. that of Donegal.

When Jim McGuinness took over the Donegal senior team, he saw that the players were there (he just needed to change their attitude) and he had the building blocks to then bring the U21 players through.

Terry Hyland was faced with a very different situation in Cavan where a wholesale clearout was required. Now Terry did this and has brought players from each of the 4 (or 5 if you include our 2010 team) teams through to form the current panel (with only 5 or 6 older players left).

For this reason, I think it's a far greater challenge that Cavan face.

one of the best games I've seen in a long time in tuam yesterday. Although Diarmuid Murtagh getting MOTM was beyond belief. At least 5 or 6 players better than him yesterday

The_analyser will have to change his view now. Good win by Roscommon but after four provincial successes an all ireland at the u 21 grade is what is required. But there is a number of lads moving towards the senior team now that have the tazte of success and wont have any fearsgoing forward

Well done Rossies. Best game of football I have seen in sometime. Galway's Damien Comer a serious talent. Sadly he was stretched off in Galway's league game with Kildare today. Hopefully it is not too serious after being done by Boyle in the Connacht senior final last year.
