Rahkill. The best u21 team was the Kerry 3 in a row side 75 76 77.
If I remember correctly they lost the 1978 final to Roscommon by one point. Jack O'Se was outstanding for them.

Cant see Meath doing much , no osullivan or James mcentee add to that Rooney Wallace Flanagan etc are all involved in senior. Very hard to see us progress
==============================
Are you saying Meath U21s are not allowed to play in the U21 championship? surely Meath have lads over the age of 21 to fill in.

Connacht U21 championship must be rocking this year. Weren't all 4 Hasting Cup semi finalists from the west? Ros and Mayo should both be very strong.

Pundit. Not saying they not allowed, but the situation is that Rooney and Flanagan are our midfield partnership ,with Gillespie O'Rourke out we don't have any choice , it would mean 3 games in a week, Roscommon Westmeath at senior and Westmeath at 21 , im sure joey Wallace will be available for them , and the more i think of it Flanagan may be over age this year but we will wait and see.

James McEntee and Cillian O'Sullivan are huge losses alright, but who is to say that we cannot us Rooney,Flanagan,Power,Harnan,McGill, the Wallace bros and the others involved with the senior panel? Plus Daire Rowe is a major prospect and hopefully we have Fiachra Ward and Kyle Dixon available.Only one of these players mentioned played in the Hastings Cup. Actually if you could play all players Meath have who are u21 including the two injured lads, they would have one of the best U21 teams in the country.

If they had all players available this could be their six forwards that are all aged U21.

James McEntee
Cillian O'Sullivan
Eamonn Wallace
Daire Rowe
Joey Wallace
Kyle Dixon

Add the two midfielders Rooney and Flanagan who have both played the first two league games with the seniors and you see Meath have plenty of young talent, even if many of them don't actually play in this competition, the talent is there.

Do we play Westmeath at home or away?

I think the U21 game is on a wednesday, sandwiched in between two important league matches for the seniors. This would mean that the U21s are unlikely to be anywhere near as strong as they can be.Its stupid though,no county games for weeks and then that happens! Surely the could have had the U21 match in one of the weeks prior to the league games.

The prioriy for young Meath lads should be the 21s. Unfair for them to play 3 games in week and if involved with Sigerson that another possible 2 games. This Meath team reached minor final in 2012 so have a good team.

They do have a good team, but it is likely that not many of the better players will play

Well our best player that year Cillian O'Sullivan is injured and will miss his second season due to injury,he was going well with the seniors.Another loss is James McEntee,he was on the senior panel also injured, but I cannot see any of the Meath under 21s who will start v Roscommon and Westmeath in the league play in the U21 match.

Meath posters I feel your pain with losing players to injury and what not but imagine losing Ciaran Kilkenny and Shane Carty and still winning last years final by 9 points wow scary team.

Hug and ziggy. If Meath had all the u21s available i believe they would have had as strong a team as any and would have been one of very few to contest with dubs. Its a huge pity that they injured or on seniors , i totally agree with that, but Flanagan Rooney harnan and probably both wallaces will feature against both Roscommon and Westmeath, it is unfair that the first rd could not have been played during league break.
However as it stands through injury and senior commitments they could be without 8 first team players. I agree about that forward line, its a match for most . Shocking pity.

Lets be honest if all were fit the two top counties this year would have been Dublin and Meath. The problem is Meath are nowhere near full strength, injuries aside the players unavailable due to senior commitments has seriously weakened our team. Hopefully the new lads can stand up.

It is terrible to see Meath making excuses for the under 21s before the competition even starts
They used not to be like that

Why do Meath seem to neglect the U21 compettion as if its someting of little importance?. Ye should maybe try and win someting at U21 level first before getting to where Dublin are.

The only thing is,it shows there are a lot of very good youngsters coming through regardless whether they play the U21 champ or not.So people think we do't have good players,in reality we do.
I found out that Daire Rowe is focusing on the leaving cert,so he is not available for the U21S this year.Very young but big prospect,I was talking to a former Meath legend and he is convinced by him.

I don't really know to be honest! I think at present we are more concerned about giving them experience playing at senior level. The average age of our seniors v Kildare was 23.

Are you serious? meath arent in top ten in country in this years u21 championship.they lost in hastings cup 4.12 to 1 point. Although you are going to say they were missing a few players it was still a meath panel that contained prob there best 35 lads in county. They will struggle win a game in championship this year.
