God I'm so glad sunday is around the corner. Last summer's sad end in Thurles (albeit after a great summer) seems so long ago. Have been itching to see the lads get back to it after a winter forced to watch premiership soccer to pass the time! (My club had an early end last year too)
Hope springs eternal for all teams at this time of year. The evenings are getting longer, the smell of fresh cut grass will soon be entering the nasal passage and before we know it the championships will be upon us.
And no doubt a summer of debating, arguing, controversy, disagreements and excitement lies ahead...and that's before we get on here!
Good luck to all. Cant wait for throw in and wish everyone the best of luck for the summer ahead.

Though you forgot to mention the sweet smell of slurry in the air.

Couldn't agree more with my fellow county lads, cannot wait for the weekend now. Winter seemed extra long this year with the anticipation. Loch Garman AbÚ.

Pinkie and Doyler I hope you boys are correct about Dublin!

Cant wait to see Kilkennys 15 having read the list of names unavailable to them. Always good to see what new gems each county unearth in February.

Whether our own counties are the succesful ones are not heres hoping for another cracking year of hurling!

Wexford v Antrim - Antrim (oooh, controversial)

Westmeath V London - Westmeath

Your prediction on the Wexford game might not be overly controversial, it may be a lot closer than a lot of people think.

Last day out our defence was a mess against Laois. From last years team we are missing the likes of Rossiter, Shore and O Hanlon on sunday, that half of our defence while both Ryan and Waters are doubtful, another 2 defenders.

Mc Donald was our star man last year and he is missing in the forwards so this is going to be an interesting game. Hopefully we have enough to see us through on the day.

I said the very same on the antrim page. We are pretty depleted but I'd hope we'll have enough anyway. Winning by a point will do. I certainly don't expect it to be a walk in the park.

Great post lad. The club team has already had one football game (and won), Cork had two games in football (and won)..but now the hurling starts! A big crowd expected in P ui Rinn on Saturday...Last summer ended dismally for us as well after a promising enough year..its over now and hope springs eternal..in a way, a big defeat like Cork and Wexford had puts things in perspective..it provides a dose of reality and shows all the areas of weakness a team might have and can learn from..I hope we have learned anyway and can give it a right go this year..we'll see..a win against the Cats is always welcome and good for confidence..

The final games of 2014 for both Cork and Wexford will at some stage this year prove a vital part in a big win. The question is - at what stage in the championship will this win happen!

A big win at any stage in the championship would do me

Ban I'll take Nowlan Park in June if it's going. I am also sure love will be in the air between Cork and Kilkenny tonight.....

Interesting nights action - Good win for Kilkenny

Wexford will be happy with what went on in Limerick. 14 man Laois maybe left something behind with a late penalty miss! All seemed to be well contested games - Looking forward to more good action tomorrow

I actually think tonight's win was a bad result for Wexford. If results went as expected from here on and both limerick and Waterford won their 3games against Laois offaly and Antrim then wexford would have to beat both limerick and Waterford. If there was a winner tonight then wexford could still have finished top by limerick Waterford and Wexford all beating each other.
Mightn't work out that way anyway as there might be a few surprise results from the other teams.

Good point pj_mcmanus. I do feel there's points to be dropped, maybe more so on the Waterford front.

Well offaly and Waterford certainly pulled it out of the bag. I think last night is irrelevant to Wexford. All we can do is try win our own games.

It is the first round of the league so will try not to get too carried away. There is a long year yet. However, whether it is first round of league or not, there are players that just are not good enough to play for Cork. Their shortcomings can be seen by everyone.

Two point defeat was flattering as well. Poor game after half time. The first goal was a definite free out, the second was a consolation fluke..
