Match Day Attendances 2015

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

That's a bit of a crazy argument tinrylandman. Any 2 counties in Ireland playing in an AI final would fill Croke Park.

Everything revolves around winning an All Ireland. Here you had 2 teams a long way off peak, already qualified for the QF's probably don't want to show their hand too much. Add in the game is played on a weekend when the Rugby hype is in over drive, there is hardly a word about it in the media. Under 16's aren't included in that attendance so the actual figure was probably around 10,000. I think that's great going for a league game with nothing at stake in March.

Brilliant crowd for the Cork v Tipp match considering, despite Seanie McGrath's protest, it was a dead-rubber game. You may also consider that there were a whole heap of club games on in Cork yesterday as well.

There are bandwagon elements in every sport Tinrylandman.
Look at all the people going to Connacht games now. Connacht rugby was about to go out of business not too long ago, and living in Galway, I can assure you that very few people gave a damn. Now theyre all wearing Connacht hats, gloves, anklets etc. Massive bandwagon element with Leinster rugby too.
Liverpool and Man Utd are Englands two most successful clubs, and are also the two most widely supported clubs in Ireland. Thats not a coincidence.
Of course the bigger the game in the GAA the bigger the audience. Its the same in every sport.
Id say that of all the sports in this country, the GAA sports are the least reliant on the bandwagon element.

I think a bit of a problem with the way the hurling championship and league is structured you do have a bit of a problem of the same small pool of teams playing each other pretty much constantly, especially when you have situations Like Clare playing Kilkenny 2 weeks in a row ( and the odds of them meeting each other again come the championship are probably fairly high as well)

Kerry Managhan 6,133
Donegal Tyrone 8,500
Was it around 20,000 for the double header in Croke Park?

Waterford Galway 3,500
Cork Wex / Cork Mayo 8,300
KK Clare 7k+

Decent numbers for the football, I'd have expected more at the hurling league quarter finals especially for the game in Walsh Park

5800 at the double header in O'Moore Park Saturday night...

Biggest Laois crowd of the year also a lot of Lillies...

Noticable how many Laois Hurling fans left after the first game and didn't stay for the football....Shocking that such a small county is split down the middle infact its amazing is there any other small county split as much as Laois as regards the two codes...

BigJohn6.8. Didn't Galway until recently have 2 county boards, 2 jerseys, 2 crests and 2 different sponsors, one each for hurling and football?

On a non very similar point, Antrim have a fairly unique arrangement in their jersies. Their footballers' alternative colours are black, but the hurlers change strip is white!

10,066 in clones for monaghan v dublin today

And the rest. There was over 15,000 at it I would say, U16s were free. Looked like we were outnumbered in the crowd today (seemed like it anyway). Fair play to the dubs, Hope ye all got home safe

2,700 in Mullingar Sunday. With kids included it was probably closer to 3,500. Was surprised at the small Westmeath support, couldn't have been much more than 400.
