Lights out in Omagh Park as floodlight failure mars National League opener
Declan Whooley

Published 31/01/2015 | 20:54

Omagh Park was plunged into darkness tonight as floodlight failure meant the National League fixture between Tyrone and Armagh had to be halted for 15 minutes in the second half........................

Monaghan had kicked six points in-a-row to turn a five-point deficit into a one-point lead early in the second half when the incident occurred.

The game was restarted once the problem was rectified with the home side trailing by a point.

Well I got 3 out of 4 right tonight, Monaghan winning is no big suprise but the manner of their win was, Tyrone looked totally abject for most of that game and unless something changes quick they could be in for a difficult league campaign

Great to get 2 points tonight, we needed to win to have a chance of staying up. Hard to judge how good we are at the moment as Tyrone were as poor as I've ever seen them, we kicked alot of wides when the game was in the melting pot. Hope Tyrone can bounce back next week, need to be much more aggressive to win ball around the middle of the field

Louth let me down for my accum. Ollie man what went wrong????
As for Tyrone??, not a huge surprise, i think the writing has been on the wall for them for awhile now, media keeps saying they are contenders, its all based on past glories, bit like Meath of last 7/8 year. It wont improve until Tyrone themselves accept that they on a very steep downward curve. Then rebuild from bottom. Its a long hard road ahead and it wont be easy.

Donegal were impressive enough last night. They were wasteful in the first half and seemed happy to allow Derry keep the ball for long periods. In the second half they upped the intensity. Neil Gallagher gave an exhibition. Michael Murphy was more effectively used (got a dubious penalty but Mark Lynch points _Derry 5th and 8th points were never frees either) and Paddy McBrearty and Martin O Reilly were very good in the corners. This full forward line is as good as any in my opinion. It would be no surprise if they win in Croke Park next Saturday.

I don't think we punch above our weight. We have more than proved ourselves as a team over last 2 years. Winning Div 3 and Div2. I think we are punching at the correct weight and we will have more to offer this year.

In terms of population, probably yeah, if that's what you meant, but I'm a bit surprised with how some people are seeing this as such a shock. This Monaghan team are in Division 1 on merit, we didn't get lucky getting there, and Tyrone are definitely not the team they were. Still a tough league for us with only 3 games at home, but that's a great start.

ziggy its not that Monaghan punch above their weight, we have some seriously talented footballer but the media keep writing us off time and time again. Players like Dessie Mone, Darren Hughes, Kieran Hughes and McManus would walk into any team in Ireland. Last night we unearthed a real star for the future Ryan McAnespie. I thought Tyrone was going to win easily as Monaghan struggled to get a grip around mid field, Monaghan were slow and laboured with their passing and without the drive of Darren Hughes to run at the Tyrone defence it could have been a different story. I thought the missed frees would have cost us but luckily the backs held tight and with the Hughes brothers being exceptional Monaghan easily won. Also nice to see the myth put to bed about Monaghan just relying on Conor McManus.
I expect Monaghan to stay up and maybe a semi final. We really do love it in Monaghan when we are wrote of, i don't know how many times we will have to win to prove the pundits wrong.

That was a great start for Monaghan. Tyrone are generallyhard to beat in Omagh.
Great start for our lads too. I felt that with the extra training Derry had over or lads it would have been tougher but in reality we should have won by more.
Paddy Mc Brearty, Murphy and O Reilly really looked good up front with Toye and Gallagher excellent in the middle. Our defence did look like ot needs a bit of work but with Mc Gee and Thompson to come back yet that will strengthen too.

Royaldunne no fighting spirit or leadership. When the likes of Paddy Keenan, Shane Lennon, Andy McDonnell, Razor Finnegan, Darren Clarke, Ronan Carroll are just a few to name that have retired or unavaible for one reason or another in the last year well its gonna hit a small panel like Louth really hard. The only conslation if Louth get relegated, I might get an away trip to London next year. Louth have four home games this year. They are the ones they have to target for points to stay up. Two away trips to Armagh and Sligo.

Agree with the general sentiment of the other Monaghan posters. We are here on merit and are better than Tyrone (were last year and probably the year before too), Whether we are at a level to stay up remains to be seen, can't imagine the other teams not punishing our wayward shooting of last night. We need to beat Cork.
The club scene in Monaghan has tightened considerably over the past 5 years or so, any one of six teams could easily have been promoted from intermediate to senior last year, the same could be said of the junior league (we only have 3 leagues). It's credit to the clubs that we can compete at this level

Good start for both promoted teams, Donegal & Monaghan.

I was at the Donegal team & what really pleased me was the way Rory Gallagher saw what needed to be done, made the changes & reaped the rewards.
McBrearty's performance was also excellent.

On to Croke Park!!

ya Louth really struggled last year,so they cannot afford to lose players like the ones you named..
