Don't usually go to Quinns myself (Hill 16 pub for me) but know plenty who do go there.

The report doesn't surprise me in the least.

I've never understood the popularity it receives to be honest, maybe stemming from it's proximity to Croker for people travelling up from the country.

It gets big crowds on match days, and some student nights but the fact that it doesn't do well at all outside those times with locals tells a lot in my opinion. There's also a wealth of excellent pubs in the surrounding areas so it struggles big time because of that outside of culchies pilgrimages on match days.

Often frequent Quinns on match day. Will not step foot inside its doors again. Shocking

MesAmis has summed it up well. When I lived in Dublin I went into Quinns on a Saturday afternoon one time. There was nothing on in Croke Park that day. I think I took about 3 sips out of my pint and left again. The fascination with Quinns is strange to be honest. McGraths, which is practically spitting distance away is ten times the pub Quinns will ever be. Meaghers down in Fairview is way better also, but a wee bit of a walk from Druomcondra - not much though!

I am old enough to remember it as McGoverns. It was a kip then. I never went in to it as Quinns. Clearys Pub across from Connolly Station just a few doors away from The North Star is The Mecca. A great pub with top class bar staff.

Well that would explain why the pint in there tastes like rat piss. To be honest I used to drink in there a good bit before games but that was really only because I used to have a friend with benefits who drank in there to, what's a young man to do ;-)

Its heyday was when it was owned by McGovern back in the late 70's andearly 80's. Those were the days of the Kerry 5 in a row, strong Armagh and Roscommon teams, Matt Connor..Matt Ruth, Offaly's rise in hurling etc. Many people used to go there to listen to man who impersonated Micheal O Hehir. He was always there before and after big games and was very entertaining.

Well I'll never be tempted to head in there again, although its many years since I drank in there. If people are after a greta pint of stout they should just walk up the road to Kennedy's, lovely pint anytime I darkened its door.

But still for match day you can't beat Mulligans or Sean O'Caseys!

I've never been in there on a match day. I lived in Drumcondra for and good few years and I've only ever been in there once.

Quinns was probably a rite of passage for many , until they turned 18 , realised what a hole it is and that Meaghers and others are much better.

A kip to be sure. Sure the Tree isn't much better. Lefthanded pints the order of the day. A beast knows they'd be taking their lives in their hands in both if they didn't drink from a bottle. Gills has lovely porter but it's fierce civilised. If you want craic and mayhem Quinns or the Tree used to be the spots on matchday. Hopefully I'll get into either or both in 2015 and shtick to bottles of Clonmel Champagne!

It's a dive.. has been for a long time

It's known as a drunken culchie student spot around the area

It's dead most of the time and deservedly so

Needs a lot of money spent on it...

The site has exceptional potential - new owner, new name, new facilities and it could be a popular spot

Don't think I ever drank in Quinns. Was in the Big Tree on numerous occasions and didn't mind it to be honest - was always a good place to pick up a last minute ticket and getit at face value. McGraths on the other hand - went in there for a pint years ago and came out with a wife so maybe better avoided.

Agree Clearys is good spot as is Meaghers up in fairview, would always park over that side as the pub atmosphere is more suited to those over a certain age. I think The North Star has "upgraded" and afraid is no longer the drinking bar it was
