If my maths are correct - an overnight stay is maybe 100euro a head x 40 players/coaches = 400,000 euro x 50 overnighters a year = 20million euro, which is still only a tenth of the cost of pairc ui chaoimh's redevelopment.

Let me guess, Henry - you worked for Anglo? AIB? Bank of Ireland? Department of Finance?

More like he still has a load of that Lufthansa money and he needs to launder it.

He should be more careful. Frankie Carbone ended up frozen to death in the back of a meat truck just for buying the wife a mink coat!

I think its an absolute disgrace this is been asked of players. The Leitrim players train as hard as any team without the resources and expectation. The least they deserve is to have the basics looked after. It is up to the county board to come up with the funds to ensure the players have everything they need to play to their potential. How are they supposed to do this when they now have to travel to Waterford on the day of a league game or antrim. No wonder Mulligan and Brennan are unavailable in 2015.
Tough on them but it isnt a disgrace. Ive seen longer distances travelled by club sides on day of the game
Its a long trip but if the costs arent there for overnight what can they do. Leave early and request different throw ins..

Would agree Donegalman about puc- a massive waste. Tribute Leitrim do have sponsors but the are a small business who while giving a lot of money for them to Leitrim it is a hell of a lot less what bigger counties are getting and counties such as Cavan who are lucky to have a multi national company started in there county. In fairness to Leitrim the have a better ground then some counties who are a lot bigger and are about to open there centre of excellence that a lot of counties including my own are struggling to do.
So what can you do. PUC isnt a massive waste. Stadium needs to be redeveloped as its current state is far from good enough

Ormand there is no need for a 45k stadium in cork. The gaa is now two tier where the better off counties can spent a pile of money on there teams, while other counties are struggling even for basis things. If the exact same group of footballers one who have all possible resources thrown at them, while another who do not, the better resources team will win. It is not only Leitrim who are struggling but a lot of other counties as well.

bannerman, while agreeing that work is needed in puc, it doesnt warrant 70 million. It needs to meet health and safety standards. But to redevelop it is throwing good after bad. Noone liked puc because of its location, and no money is going to change this. I will repeat my opinion that 70 million is a sum of money that could be used very productively around the country, especially the smaller clubs and counties.

If Cork does not need a 45k stadium what then is sufficient?
That isnt an argument for not building a stadium in Cork. Itll be a modern stadium of better standard than all but a few. How isnt that needed? There isnt just a 45k stadium being built there is other many other facilities and xtras than just a stadium,....

What is sufficient money to spend on the stadium then?

A nice 25k ground possibly in a better location would do the job.

This link should give price a bit of perspective. I am not an expert in stress testing or engineering, but I always thought that 70 million was a ludicrous sum.

Where did you get your 2 million figure.
40 players @ 100€ a head is 4,0000€ and 50 times this is 200,00€ and not 2 million

I don't think it's a bad thing. We all sleep better in our own beds anyways. Maybe with an exception to places like Ennis as it's a long long way from Clare to here.

Mmm, seem to be running a tight ship in our neck of the woods.

" Treasurer Brian Gordon pointed out that the debt on the redevelopment of Pairc Sean MacDiarmada was down from over €700,000 to €408,000, with €5,400 per month being paid on that term loan.

Operating profit for the year was €32,907."

This is a disgrace, surely croke park could help, what with sky giving lots of money to the gaa, and Leitrim people in America, fundraising, i feel for the players,Leitrim is a lovely county, i know Leitrim has a small population, about 25,000, and that does not help,in a lot of counties, rich, successful people give money to help the players, maybe some1 could do this to help Leitrim. best of luck to Leitrim in the future, this is not on,hopefully this will be sorted.
