Sigerson Cup

One college in particular which i completed a day of fitness tests in a few years back now, the head of the sports and still current Sigerson manager explain that for top footballers the main aim was to get the points to get into any course in the College and then they would sort them out with transfers to other courses if needed even if that course was higher point than what they had achieved. On the day we were shown around all the facilities and told how well the players got looked after in terms of housing, food and finances.
In this college you needed to be county minor for two years to get a scholarship, but for a certain county this requirement included only one year at county level.

In relation to point the scholarship meant who could get an extra 50 points to get into a course.

I think they should get allowances as players do have to put in a lot of work when it comes to school, training and study for leaving cert. But the practice of buying mature inter county players takes away from the prestige of the competition.

Totally lost interest in this competition over the last few years. Just clicks of lads in Universities - a lot of who get access due to their football skills only - being the superstars around campus etc. Jordanstown are such a bad example of a club in my opinion, assembling all-star teams of lads, doing ridiculous one year courses while other youngsters are being turned away because they dont have enough points - or good footballers not getting a chance because they weren't a 'big name' at county level.

I have to applaud you Brolly for hitting the nail on the head here. College IMO should be about affording everyone not matter how talented in sports an oppurtunity to educate themselves further.

GAA Scholarships are a joke.
