Cork are gona be a dangerous animal in Munster this year, they have all the motivation they need to bury us, they still have some of the best players in Ireland and if they had a proper management team in place no one not Kerry or Dublin or mayo or Donegal would touch them and that's a fact.

Dublin are a fine team of athletes but ye don't have enough football to take back Sam . If ye play to ye'r strengths and go back to ye'r rugby league style ye had under gilroy ye MIGHT make the final. Sam is very happy down here in the southwest , we carry it out for walks on carrantuohill and around the national park trying to air it out ;-) the canasters Sam and tommy , and us Kerry folk are all wintering well thank god and looking forward to taking a stab at the allirelands of 2015.

Cork could very well beat us if we're not 100% tuned for some reason then we'll be in trouble and ya could be meeting the ulster runner ups I think.

Clondalkin,

Can I ask you an honest question ?

What weaknesses do the Dublin team have ?

Think Galway are gonna give Mayo a hell of a rattle and will not be suprised if they beat them and will not be suprised if Mayo win either as for the other provincal championships th Ulster is the only competitve championship in football it may not be preety but you won't see teams being beaten by 13 points like in Leinster and Munster which Dublin and Kerry seem to dish out I think Tipperary are improving but none else from Munster is competitive enough there is no competiton in Leinster the hammering Galway took against Mayo 2 years ago will not happen again but seriously the provincial championship needs to be scraped fot the sake of the weaker counties to prgress!!!!!!

Was the Offaly team that won Sam in '82 the best team in Ireland ? Better than a team that was going for 5 in a row but lost to a last minute goal?

It's a little depressing to be able to say in Jan that the AI is between the following:
1. Kerry 2. Dublin 3. Mayo/Donegal/Cork
To complete the August bank holiday include any 3 of the following depending on your fancy: Armagh/Kildare/Monaghan/Tyrone/Galway/Meath
Everyone else making up the numbers.
League will be a much more interesting competition.

so let's recap the all ireland final will involve either: Kerry,Dublin,Mayo,Donegal,Cork,Armagh,Kildare,Monaghan,Tyrone,Galway or Meath.

That's 11 teams out of 33 or one third. not bad at all.

Agreed, in ever sport the world over you have the those who are successful and those making up the numbers. So why is it Gaels get so flustered about it??? Look at club level, in every county certain clubs dominate. My club hasn't won the Kerry championship since 1968, it doesn't stop us believing that one day we will end the tyranny of Lixnaw, Ballyduff and Kilmoyley!!!

I'm sure a lot of people on here are fans of English soccer and probably a few support the likes of Aston Villa, when are they ever going to win anything, but still every week thousands of people turn up to watch them even if its just to see if they can break into the top ten of the premiership for a season.

The only possible exception is the likes of American Football with its draft system and wage caps, and while those things are laudable it is a professional sport and the downside is the lack of any affinity with a place or sense of history. How can their be when a franchise can just up and leave a place and transfer to a new history. Not to mention how utterly dull the game is!!

Community and a sense of place and pride in your locality are the heart of the GAA, yes maybe Leitrim or Louth will only win a provincial title once every 50 years. But won't that be celebrated like An All Ireland and still spoken about for decades after??

I do agree however that each county should be given a fair share of the pie, that their should be X amount of development officers and coaches per X amount of a playing population, ensuring all counties at least have access to them. Also things like a centre of excellence and proper all weather training facilitates should be available in most counties and in case of smaller and weaker ones such facilities could be built with the idea of sharing it between 2-3 of the weaker counties that are in close proximity to each other.

Good point Hermit. I cannot think of any competition in any major world sport that does not have basically the same teams competing year in year out. All sports have their eras where there is a good spread of winners - gaelic football in the 1990s and hurling in the 1990s being two examples, and EPL was somewhat similar in that you had Blackburn and Leeds win it around same time, but it is very rare for "fairy tales".

Successful teams breed success, and if professional attract or can afford the better players. Ce la vie.

Westkerry every team has weaknesses to be fair, ours are probably our all out attacking beautiful football that leaves no coverage for our full back line (Donegal last year for example) and our biggest weakness the last 4 years is the amount of goal chances we miss in games is frighteningly bad I mean if we took half our chances no one would come within ten points of this great team. Other than than were pretty much a country mile the best team in Ireland.

Since 1992 (start of Premier League)
English Premier League - 5 - Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Blackburn, City
La Liga - 5 - R. Madrid, A. Madrid, Barca, Deportivo, Valencia
Seria A - 5 - Milan, Juve, Roma, Lazio, Inter
All Ireland Football - 10 - Donegal, Down, Derry, Dublin, Meath, Tyrone, Donegal, Kerry, Cork, Galway

Most sport is dominated by a few big guns. We are actually quite lucky to get the upsets more often than others.
