i agree it's not a Dubs v the rest issue and it's probably viable as it would be full for most of their league matches but trying to sell it as a home stadium for other counties is just bluster. a fraction of this money would make Navan and Conleths comfortable for league and most championship matches

It makes practical sense in terms of communications and the benefits of motorway travel to games should not be underestimated. Whether it achieves widespread support is another matter.

Navan - M3
Portlaoise - M7

All accessible off the M50 and no great distance so the above towns tick the accessibility by motorway boxes already, and they already have the sites on which to develop 35 to 40k stadiums so why spend money on buying a prime site near the M50 and developing it into a stadium when there are two immediately identifiable sites accessible by motorway already in GAA ownership a donkey's kick from the capitol, I can not overstate the total ridiculousness of this notion of a new stadium near the M50, if people think €70 on Pairc Ui Chaoimh is an unnecessary spend on s white elephant good God what will they make of this???

To me this is a good idea but build it as a 25,000 seater fully covered etc. That makes a proper stadium to host the numerous games that look lost in Croke Park.

What a gigantic waste of money. What's wrong with Croke Park?

After Cork there is no need for any major new stadia. Just upgrade what already exists. Maybe a shared grounds for Roscommon, Westmeath and maybe Connacht Rugby/RWC in Athlone.

Agree with the comments re accessibility. Portlaoise/Navan meet that criteria already. Sounds to me that this would eventually become a stadium for the rugby authorities for their use in the 2023 rugby world cup

Dont be silly ruanua. It was a perfectly simple question?

----
My point is that we already have a stadium off the M50 - not sure why need another one.
To get within walking distance of Croke park if you use the Port tunnel ( 3 euro )
Takes 15 minutes from the m50 / N2 junction - 20 from m3/m4 and maybe 25 from M7

The 15 mins each way for 3 games ( which is a more than average ) 2 of which would have been in Croker anyway wasn't the biggest setback of the year

I dont agree with wasting money on a stadium for Leinster when so many counties in Leinster are in desperate need of money to promote games,to accomadate teams and to put into underage development, however I dont know if the like of Navan and Newbridge would be able to accomadate 40000 people in terms of parking etc. Can you imagine the traffic coming through Navan on a sold out doubleheadar the place would come to a standstill.

Lads,i think the GAA or Leinster council are looking for a stadium size to handle the vast majority of games. We all know that Croke Park is only full a few times every year- and the cost of hosting games infront of a half/quarter full Croke Park is prohibitive. Not to mention the funeral like non atmosphere this generates.A 40,000 stadium would be a much better option.Imagine the cracking atmosphere a full house would generate?I think it is a good idea.I like the sou8nd of having it close to M50,but i would be open to other venues like Portlaoise etc.

Couldn't believe when I read this earlier. To quote the GAA Mission statement:
"Value: Community Identity

What This Means: Community is at the heart of our Association. Everything we do helps to enrich the communities we serve. We foster a clear sense of identity and place.
"

What this should say of course is that, unless you live in a county bordering Dublin. Then businesses in around your county ground can forget about match day business. Your home league games are in decrepit stadiums or moved outside your county. Same with your county finals. Are there a lot of people moving into your county who are from other places? Well the GAA don't care whether they for any attachment to the Meath or Kildare GAA community. The only important thing is Dublin. A full training complex built for nothing without any cost to the DCB and now apparently a new stadium in their borders also. We just exist to enrich that community and that sense of identity and place. We don't have our own.

If you stop with your hatred for Dublin just for a minute and think about it a stadium on the M50 is a great idea for everyone in Leinster.

Well whatever about what you think I hate. These are the things I like.

I liked being able to cycle into games in Newbridge when I was a lot younger.
I like going for a few pints in Newbridge after games on Sunday now and meeting the same heads around the place.
I like shopping local.
I like going to the toilet in Newbridge and not fearing I may contract some disease from the middle ages.
I like to understand the PA announcer when he mentions a sub.
Someday I might like a seat.
I like seeing kids walking around Kildare in Kildare jerseys.
I like the fact when them kids play underage finals in Newbridge, it's the same field graced by Bolton, Doyle, Earley, Rainbow and Ryan.
I like to think there would be a few bob invested into the county to produce the next Bolton, Doyle, Earley, Rainbow or Ryan.

Driving kids to Dublin to watch Kildare or Meath. It has nothing to do with community or pride of place in those counties or whatever is left of it after being flooded by so many people from other counties and countries. It would only benefit one county.

Another white elephant of a stadium that will probably only be filled once in a generation.
We already have plenty of stadia, arguably too much.
If the powers that be would just utilise them, instead of fixing every game that might pull a decent crowd to croker, theyd realise this.

It's a shame that the county grounds of the four counties closest to Dublin will fall further into disrepair if this vanity project gets the green light down the line. Any Leinster Council project would need the backing of those four counties. It's no wonder Aughrim, Drogheda, Navan and Newbridge have seen no investment forthcoming from Croke Park. Beggars can't be choosers after all.

Joncarter I promise you it will only be a white elephant if it's not built in Dublin.

No you're right beggars can't be choosers but we are all part of the Gaa and so we should be treated with respect, this proposed vanity project near the M50 is nothing but a big two fingers to Kildare, Louth, Meath & Wicklow.

I think it's very disrespectful for the Gaa to come out and announce that they're considering building another 40k+ stadium in Dublin (Ireland's 3rd smallest county, which already contains Europe's 3rd largest stadium) when there's 4 other county grounds surrounding Dublin that badly need renovations, it's madness.

Another stadium in Dublin? To take even more games which could be played in venues outside Dublin? What a joke. The GAA need to cop on.

Why on the M50? Why not half way down the M4, M3, M6, or M7.

Only an hour from Dublin but a whole lot handier for a lot more counties.
