Hiney was right to retire. He'd never win anything with Dublin.

I could say the same about Joe Canning if you are referring to the senior All Ireland :-)

But I won't because I have the height of respect for any man; Kelly, Canning, Tommy Walsh, Stephen who have served their counties so well over the years.

Not comparing like with what like? I doubt Joe Canning shares your sneering attitude to the other players I named!

best forward ive seen so far in my life time looking at hurling.ahead of dj and shefflin. joe canning has the potential to be as good and maybe better .but he hasnt yet. hes playing with a less than succesful team at the moment and his managers of recent times dont seem to know how to maximise his talent.but remember eoin played with a lot of average tipp teams and he often won games on his own..the pieces of sneering etc on here are pathetic. now my hope over the next 5 plus years is that joe will fulfill his undoubted talent and win a few all irelands for galway..over to you joe..

i fear joe canning might never reach his full potential. but this is to no fault of his own - he is just unlucky to be in a poor galway team. im sure if he was from kilkenny, tipp or clare then he would be one of the greatest players ever. just so hard for him having to carry an average team who will probably never in his playing career be good enough to help him win an all ireland.
kelly was a class act. along with shefflin the 2 best forwards over the last 15 years. his wrists were unbelievable.

1675848 The Greatest forward I've ever seen in Eoin Kelly has retired. I'm biased but even great stick men like Mullane and Brennan hadn't the skill level of Kelly.
At his best there has been no better. His goal of his left side against Cusack was one of the fiercest strikes I've seen. Only joe canning could hit a ball as sweet. He carried the Tipp forward line for many years and despite not being the quickest he could make space so easily. 2009 and 2010 finals he was excellent. Will be missed.
Thanks Eoin! Enjoy your retirement!

Two words for you tiobraid.....Joseph Canning. Argument over.

It's fair enough to compare the two as both have serious wrists but for me when Tipp were going poor in the mid noughties, Kelly carried Tipp through matches. Canning for me hasnt done that so much the last two seasons. I'm biased but for me he has been the best I've ever seen. For people who remember him at this peak and I'll include his performance in 09 in that despite being injured I think they will have seen no better!

Has anyone else scored 10 scores or more from play in a major Cship match? Possibly but not too many
