I take it these are the role models that Joe Brolly wants kids to follow

You must have done a fair bit of digging to find this...or maybe you regularly subscribe to the Meath Chronicle..

Sad to see and hear the morons in the crowd cheering their little heroes, during and after the melee.

Whats the point? I mean, if you dislike the GAA, why are you posting on a GAA website? What does that gain for you? Not that anyone HAS to like the GAA or Gaelic Games, I'm sure plenty of people don't. But coming onto a GAA forum just to slag it off seems like a pointless endeavor. Its not healthy to invest time in raining on someone else's parade.

This is how GAA people should behave:

I tried to start a thread about the melee that was on the main page here the other day, but was not printed, why??

Sorry it wasn't actually a melee but still it was not printed, I'd really love to know why, I've asked and have been ignored.

Having read all the articles , here is my tuppence worth ,firstly Hunt was in my opinion making a legimate point about the life of a professional sportsman and even though people might think it is stupid resting is not that easy to do when you have to sleep in the middle of the day but it is all part of the fitness regime of a pro athlete , GAA players and supporters have no idea of the dedication it takes to get to the level that even Hunt has got to and even more to stay at that level .Eamonn Sweeney gets it fairly spot on in yesterdays piece about GAA people thinking that they are much better than they really are ,they are no more dedicated or less dedicated than people in other sports in Ireland ,in my opinion track and field and long distance athletes are the most dedicated people that I have come across to there chosen sport ,
Brolly shows a lot of ignorance and snobbery in his article , he insinuates that just because someone is from a working class area that they are in no position to be role models which is a pretty awful comment but then his own profession are hardly the beacons of humanity either and of course he does go back to the usual GAA analogy of using violence as a supposedly sign of sporting prowess.
Both Eamonn Sweeney and Stephen Hunt put him back in his box yesterday in their articles but I am sure he will come back with some more GAA snobbery crap this week .

I couldn't agree more, I thought Sweeney's article was brilliant, and he encapsulated everything I wanted to say, but couldn't say as eloquently as Sweeney. A lot of people on here take issue with soccer players due to the fact that their game is not as 'macho' as gaelic games, and that is what Brolly is also trying to get across with his stupid point that "Hunt wouldn't last two minutes in an Ulster final". So bloody what, nothing macho about sly digs off the ball, constant mouthing off to your immediate opponent or players trying to deliberately injure their opponents who have to work the next day. Our sports are wonderful and unique, but sadly there exists a huge mindset within the GAA of belittling other sports, and in particular English football. It is narrow minded to say the least, and I would wager a bet that not one person on here who is having a go at Hunt, would refuse the huge money that players get in English football. Personally I can't stand Brolly, he is a mouthpiece who is one of the few fortunates to have made money out of the GAA, however it does not give him the right to slag off an Irishman with limited talent, who has managed to carve out a career for himself in English football.

The whole "Stephen Hunt wouldn't last five minutes in an Ulster Championship match" thing was utter nonsense.

Most players in an Ulster Championship match wouldn't last five minutes in a Fanad United game.

Shock horror, people who are excellent at one sport are probably not excellent in another sport!
