What's the story with the kicking? are they told to just balloon the ball as far as they can?

International Rules

One quarter in and Ireland are getting an early lesson in handling and kicking skills lesson from guys who have kicked a round for a couple of weeks. Probably too early to make a judgement but two possibilities strike me...Gaelic football skill coaching isn't as prominent as it should be or Gaelic football skills are easily learnt meaning it's not that skilful a game after all. Let's see how this pans out...

Aussies kicking the ball superbly the Irish can't even kick it adequately.

Munnelly and then O'Shea missing easy chances again whilst the Aussies take their easy.

It isn't just a case of the Australians being good. Ireland have been totally unprepared and aren't up to the required standard.

Next years rules, Ireland to have 22 players, Aussies to play with one hand tied behind back.

Tackling has been eroded from GAA over the past decade, teams can just hand pass the ball up the pitch so players now struggle with the basic skills of kicking and catching. It's showing today where you can actually tackle

some of these guys are playing at junior standard
the number six is it hanley is like a headless chicken
all he is doing is fouling the player and looks lost out there
bit like last series here but in reverse
ireland anhiliated a weakened aussie selction
this time a very strong aussie team are hammering a weakened ireland selection
no excuse for kicking the ball so far wide that you dont even get a one pointer

nothing got to do with gaelic football as a whole
the fact is the irish team picked is very poor
some of these guys arent up to it simple as
aussies picked an indegnious side last time
and ireland appear to have a similiar thing here with about 15 differant counties having a player playing

Australia annihilating us.
A few big differences for me.
1. Our fitness and agility levels are behind that of the Ozzies.
2. They are more accurate in front of goal. What has happened to O Neill, McManus and O Shea? Terrible efforts.
3. They play very good handpassing game with great support running. Very quick at seeing and giving the handpass when under pressure.
4. We are stuck on our heels at the breaking ball. They are moving in for the breaking ball.
5. We do a lot of fouling which is let go in Gaelic football. These frees are killing us.
6. As another poster has pointed out we either panic on the ball or delay for too long.
7. They push higher up the field putting pressure on us. We are playing like so many teams in Ireland now. Too defensive. It doesn't suit this game. We need to pressure higher up the pitch. A full press if you like.
8. you can see they they are better prepared and want and need this more. They are out to prove a point.

One area where we are ahead is fielding the ball, which the Ozzies would traditionally be better at. If they can get a grip in this area we could be in for a record defeat.
Not looking good at all.

thats not tackling its just pulling somebody to the ground
you cannot do that in gaelic football as you cannot put your hands on a player

This is so embarressing it's not funny. Can you imagine if the Aussies took all them goal chances!!!! Irish lads look they been handed the ball for the first time judging by the kicking. Only Katie Donnelly looks some way capable. Missing 21 metre free is terrible at any level.

My last post wasn't accepted. Ireland gave ebeen absolutely horrendous. Would be better off playing an ulster select team as it seems like they are the only boys trying. Earley is accountable here for his team selection

Yes Hill16 that was exactly my point - perhaps you should reread my post
You can't tackle in Gaelic football anymore so in a game where you can tackle you need to be able kick and catch

What are you on about?

The big tough Ulster boys are getting destroyed out there too.

As I type Mattie Donnelly misses the entire goal.

Earlsy has to take a lot of blame here . How did he pick this team from the 31 counties ? Is there a bit of tokenism going on here.........also for a captain Murphy is terrible. The leaders seem to be Keegan Moran McCarthy and to a lesser extent McManus.

you could never tackle anybody by pulling them to the ground in gaelic football
so i dont know why your saying you cant tackle in gaelic football anymore
as you can tackle the same way you always could
