Galway boycott Leinster

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I would agree with posters here regarding home games for Galway, for the majority of games Tullamore, Croke Park, even Portlaoise aren't that much of an inconvenience. I'm sure in the future home and away agreements could be reached with certain suitable counties (i'm sure both Galway and Wexford would be content to continue with neutral venues should they meet).

It was mentioned in earlier posts that Galway should have known that they would be rejected from entering our underage teams into Leinster and should have canvassed Leinster counties before putting it to a vote. I tend to believe that the County Board knew that they did not have the support but what they have done now by bringing it to a vote is put the shoe on the other foot.

Galway teams (and i would include the Senior Club Champions in Leinster too) have always been criticised for geting straight into quarter or semi finals and having a handy run to All-Irelands and they should put all their teams into Leinster. Now they have tried this and been rejected the hope would be that Leinster counties would come under pressure to change their minds - the alternative for Galway if they knew they didn't have the votes was to pull back from it and leave things as they were, at least they are making an attempt to force the issue.

GalwayDublin,I'll keep my comments brief cos referring to past games is a little off topic...the fluke of the year 2014 was Galway drawing with KK in Tullamore. 9 points down with 5 mins to go, or whatever it was. The proof that it was a fluke was that we lost by 9 points or so in the replay -- the proper margin between the sides this year. If the first game was in Nowlan, you can be sure that we wouldnt have been allowed back into the game because KK would play with even more resolve in their own back yard. In that scenario I could see that level of Galway performance getting us a 15 point defeat in Nowlan. Thats my opinion. Im very happy with Tullamore for games vs KK and Wexford (we should have early round games vs the Dubs there too). Btw I agree with all your other comments about lack of support and negativity. I dont see myself as being negative here, merely realistic.

Alright PoolSturgeon, I accept and have no problems what so ever with your opinion, that is what this is for. I just hate the negativity around the team, and all the mad stories you hear, e.g The Thomas's and Portumna players not traveling together. I simply don't believe them anymore.

I always try to defend the team, and that was my reason for pointing out their record. I was at most games last year, even the Walsh Cup game in Freshford. We are a generally a county of critics in the main when it comes to most sports. I am from the west of the County, and would not mind Pearse Stadium games, though I can see how Tullamore is as, if not more accessible than pearse Stadium to those in the traditional hurling areas in the east of the County

I think all games between the so called bigger sides such as Kilkenny, Dublin, Galway and Wexford should be at a neutral venue up to the Leinster Final, whereas any games against the likes of Laois, Offaly (my apologies to Offaly for designating them a weaker county) Westmeath etc could be done on a home and away basis. However in saying all of that I am already looking forward to our game against Dublin on May the 31st next year, as Croker is not the same advantage to the Dublin hurlers as it is to the footballers? Finally Galway should not let this issue lie, all or nothing, and if not they need to call the GAAs bluff, and threaten withdrawal of the Seniors from Leinster.
