Portlaoise v Vincent's

Hill id say your completely wrong. Tuohy flying from the other side of the world to play a club game is a symbol of all that is good with the GAA. Every Portlaoise player will be delighted to have him in the dressing room on Sunday.

Either do I , I think for the good of the team he plays, I'm sure the player losing out doesn't mind losing out to a professional athlete who the whole of laois looks up to and respects. Honestly if Portlaois win this game the whole competition is blown wide open but if Vincents win I can't see them being stop, massive game that needs Tuoghy involved IMO

Zach is a fully paid up member of our club, he is listed on every panel all year, every year since he left for Australia. He has returned every year and trained and played ,when chosen, for us.

To the club and the team he is a constant member of the panel, of course he is based in Australia but when he is in Ireland he has never not trained fully as any other player. These are his friends and neighbours and we are all in it for the good of the club, Zach is a massive guide to the youngsters coming through and is brilliant with training kids and presenting medals all over the county when here. There is not one player or club member who has any issue, we as a club we need every available talent to us to beat St. Vincents.

It's off season in the Aussie Rules so usually the Irish players come home and take there holidays here , I know Tuoghy played in lasts years laois county final just wondering why he didn't play this years final?

Have been wondering why there are no Portlaoise lads on the county team after winning eight (open to correction here) in a row. A unique situation ?? Was down at a league match a couple of years ago and a fella said they have a couple of wing backs or corner backs well fit for the team

In response to why not many portlaoise men on laois panel, there are several factors. Lillis and Boyle had long term injuries last year. healey is based in London. A couple of others are either a little old or young for inter county. And some others have just lost out to stronger individuals from weaker clubs. In response to the Zach Tuohy issue, everyone in portlaoise behind him. I know first hand the work he does presenting medals, visiting schools, donating Carlton jerseys etc. Portlaoise have lost out when he unavailable, so more than makes sense to play him when he is. fair play clondalkindub for having a sensible view on this.

Its about winning. Portlaoise have a better chance with Tuohy in the team. As for training all year, He's a professional athlete. He trains for a living. He'll be the fittest player on the pitch by a mile. Ask any player on the portlaoise panel if they would rather have Tuohy in the team and win or leave him out and lose. I dont think its a difficult call.

everybody wants to win but its not always about winning at the end of the day theres a bigger picture.
if your running a club you need to lay down an example.
portlaoise may have a better chance of winning this match with him in the team yes
but what happens if they win and he goes back to australia
do they fly him out again for the next round?
the other player who lost out over this probably comes back in and is under pressure immediatly.
not talking about him not being fit enough to play
im talking about from a team perspective, the guy hasnt been there all year and is walzing in and taking another
player who has been committed to portlaoise all year
the other player probably gave up weekends to play for portlaoise, gave up week nights at home with family to train
he may have had to take holidays at certain time to suit the club and time off work to play games
now come the biggest game of his year , he is being tossed aside for a guy who choose not to commit to the team this year.
put yourself in the player who is being droppeds position here.
if club managers are going to ask players at the start of the year to sacrifice a lot of time and effort and committ to the team
the least players can expect is that the manager will not do something like fly somebody who hasnt been involved all year
home from the other side of the world, it sends out a message that he hasnt got belief in the his players.
sometimes winning isnt the bigger picture in it all, it reminds me of certain underage managers through the years
who had players turning up training all year, yet guys who knew they were good at the sport and didnt bother going training
would get played each week ahead of the young lads who put the effort in

its a symbol of whats wrong with the club game in my eyes.
he is not a portlaoise player this year, he choose to live and play in australia.
the portlaoise player whos place he will take choose to stay in portlaoise
work hard all year and now will loose his spot to tuohy because they fly him from the other side of the world
how can you think that is fair or good for the club game?
put yourself in the player loosing his spots place, would you be happy to have to sit on the bench for tuohy?
any player worth his salt would be dissapointed if this happened them

hill16no1man , you're way wrong on this one , and if you were from Portlaoise and understood the dynamics ...... Zach is no different to any other player . He gives 100 per cent commitment , when its physically possible to be there . So no emigrants should play in your opinion . . . Joke !

Hill I appreciate why you wouldn't understand this situation as you are a Dub and emigration tends not to be as big a problem for your clubs. For most GAA clubs though lads being away with work and not making trainings/challenge games/proper games is the norm. When it comes to the big day every club man wants the best 15 available - you train all year hoping to be one of these 15 but you don't want your best players missing just so you can get a game. You can't compare this situation to a lad who doesn't bother training, it's more comparable to Dr Crokes not picking Gooch because he wasn't training in June.

In fairness this is hardly your typical emigration story. There's probably a couple of Vinnies lads abroad too that they would love to be able to bring home but unlike Tuohy that can't take time off work and fly home to play ball.

Where hill is from has nothing to do with where he is from either.

Good luck to Portlaoise and bringing Tuohy back for games. It's a luxury that 99% of clubs in the country and fellas emigrated cannot afford to do.

being from the town is a great thing to say having zach home for the game is an added bonus, i think we will match the vinnes all around the pitch conor boyle vs eammon fennell, healy vs connolly tuhoy vs breenan lills could do a job on quinn, people say st vincents have good fowards so have we have paul cahillanne, rodgie bryan glynn and bruno. we have a team well capable of beating st vincents home turf will have no fear cmon the town. we have under achived in leinster in recent years so i think out time is due.

Ziggy with the greatest of respect to the other teams in Leinster the only team capable of beating Vincents is Portlaois in Portlaois, home advantage is huge for them. IMO Vincents from what I've seen are even better than last year so it will take something special to beat them.

Has the makings of a great game, Portlaois gave Vincents their toughest game last year on their way to winning the AllIreland.
Some great match ups will be on view.

No. Ballintubber (Mayo) v St. Brigid's (Ros) the football game on TG4 the weekend. Could be a very good game too though!
