Michael Murphy should have been considered at 14 like Donaghy. The choice was between the two of them for that position. They both played the 14 role this year sometimes inside and sometimes out the field. Thats a 14's role in modern football. To move one to to 11 to facilitate the other is a bit of a joke imo.

Ryan McHugh has lost out because of this. He was lethal all the way through the championship. He ran riot against us in the Ulster Final and without him I don't think Donegal would have been as potent this year.

dont understand why they keep moving players to fit them in..michael murphy didnt play many games at centre forward so dont see how you can say he was the best centre forward this year.

IMO Shane Walsh from galway deserved centre forward this year

If Donaghy can get an award after 2 games..don't see why drew whiley or dessie mone cant get one.

Murphy should be full forward instead of Donnaghy.
Donnacha Walsh should be in the half forward line.
Dessie Mone should be in the half back line instead of McCarthy.

Probably on the balance of the all stars, it is about as good as the selection committee could do.

I thought that AOM was unlucky not to get one. So was the monaghan keeper, so was ryan mchugh. There are others who deserve an all star but there is only so much room at the table. I think that Donachy had to get one by popular demand, and that threw a bit of a curve ball into the mix for other players. He was very influential in the time he played on the field this year.

Not the worst selection in the world however. The representation from the 4 counties is about right. Mayo had to be acknowledged for being in such a good semi final, and so did dublin with the football they played all year. 4 for us is about right. 5 for kerry is not bad, they might feel a bit aggrieved but what can you do if there are other deserving players out there too.

feel that the All-Star System is flawed and has been for some time. Players should be nominated from their playing position and be picked as All-Stars from there i.e. full back line, half back line half forward line and full forward line. Paul Murphy should have picked for an All-Star at No.5 where he played the majority of the season. Instead James McCarthy is picked in the half back line simply because they could not accommodate McCarthy in the full back line. I also felt either (or both) Aidan O'Mahony and Frank McGlynn had better performances throughout the season than James McCarthy had, and both players can feel particularly hard done by not to be rewarded. I thought while Donaghy performed exceptionally well in the two Mayo games (1st one 10 mins playing time) and the All-Ireland he was not deserving of an All-Star. There needs to be a criteria set where a player should have to play in at least 3-4 full games and perform extremely well to warrant an All-Star. Aidan O'Mahony and Ryan Mchugh and Frank McGlynn played in 3 times the games Donaghy played in this years championship and performed reasonably well enough to warrant inclusion in my opinion as All-Stars.

James McCarthy ahead of Desie Moane, Frank McGlynn and Aidan O'Mahoney. I just don't see the logic in that going on performances this year. James McCarthy is an excellent footballer no doubt but just feel there were better half-backs this year.

The Dubs had to get their share of ALLStars whether they deserved them or not
They would beuproar in the capital if they only got 1 award and Paul Flynn was
the only one that deserved one

Not a chance did James McCarthy have a better year than Dessie Mone. In no way was he better and how can you give a goalkeeper an all star after he was the reason that his team lost an all Ireland final!

only 4 semi-finalists represented.

is this unusual? you would imagine that someone outside the "top 4" would have been worthy of a place.
Armagh for instance played 7 games this year. and were a kick of a ball away from holding donegal so surely deserved a man on there.
Also I take the point about Dessie Mone. He is very unlucky (and of course next year they play Cavan in first round.. so season over :))

Whats the difference between the GPA Hurler/Footballer of the year and the Texaco Hurler/Footballer of the year? Which one is better to win and why is their two?

Think O'Mahony and Walsh deserved All Stars. Unhappy that Walsh has lost out by placing Murphy in half forward line. I agree totally with Star getting the award but think Flynn should have made way for Walsh's selection.

For anyone that doesn't think Durcan deserved an all star, the man was outstanding until the final. Not many knows this, but Durcan hit a child with a ball in the warm up and the child ended up in hospital, which he knew happened and rattled him

Frank McGlynn possibly should feel hard done by but McCarthy had an excellent year and over all probably does deserve his all star.. I can't understand how Paul Flynn didn't get a nomination for a footballer of the year??? At half time in the all Ireland football semi final he had the player of the year in the bag

Only 1 of the last 60 All-Stars in football have now gone to any of the 6 northern counties. What odds would you have got on that happening 10 years ago? I am sure it wont be long until that stat is corrected with these counties coming good again.
