Seems BBC did try to secure better coverage, how hard they actually tried and if it was a good enough effort- who knows

Yeah funny I came across that article last night - there were still a lot of things not really clear though. The GAA had asked the BBC to put together a bid for what games they wanted and what they were offering for them - all outside the ITT. In the article the BBC spokesman Shane Glynn said that "The finances were bench-marked against what we pay for rights in other comparable sports and contracts, and against previous GAA contracts" but that the GAA rejected what they had bid. Now, how much did the BBC bid for what they wanted (which again according to Glynn was quite an extensive package of games) or what other comparable sports and contracts were they benchmarking their bid against? Given the participation in and spectators of GAA is higher than any other sport in the North then I am guessing they are referencing Soccer and Rugby as they would be then next 2 highest comparable sports and we know that they have secure the rights to a good few matches across the 2 codes so presumably they have paid a good bit of money to secure those rights. Its all a bit wishy washy to me and I would like to see something meaningful like how much did they actually bid or what sports were they comparing it to when making this bid.

Did anybody see BBC's news coverage of the championship draw yesterday? Obviously they just mentioned the Ulster teams but they put a picture up behind the presenter of a Tyrone player aggressively locking heads with a Donegal player and introduce it as Tyrone will 'lock horns' with Donegal in next years championship and skimmed through the rest like a fast hip hop track, this after 10 minutes of other sports. You would have thought it was something of the nature of an unlicensed boxing match but the only thing unlicensed next year will be my TV set!
