The 45 that wasn't given was a weird one as what the Kerry defender done was as peculiar as the umpires decision to wave it as a wide.

The reason why the Kerry defender (I think mit might have actually been JOD) touched the ball out was because he like everyone else in the ground seen that the goalie had touched the ball so it was going out for a 45' anyway. He didn't bank on the umpires and ref missing the fact that kelly touched it. I mean it was as clear as anything that the ball was deflected by the keeper so when kerry defender seen that he just nonchantly touched the ball out of play. unbelievably the officials missed that touch too :).
maybe they thought two wrongs make a right.

I was under the impression that the rules of football state that all players should be outside the 20m and semi circle for kick outs, if so , Donaghy was clearly inside the semi circle re take goal kick? And as another point how did the umpire rule Darrach O'Connor goal bound shot as a wide - when the Kerry defender clearly kicked it over the line.

Brush up on the rules before making these sort of statements.

After a score, the kick-out shall be taken
from the ground on the 20m line in front of
the scoring space. All players, except the
goalkeeper and the player taking the kick-out
(if other than the goalkeeper), shall be outside
the 20m line.

which Donaghy was!

I think the problem Durcan had was Donaghy was jumping in front of him for the kickouts on or very close to the 20m line - 7m from the kickouts. The rule states that all players should be a minimum of 13m from the kick. With Donaghy being 6' 6" it makes it very difficult for any goalkeeper to get accuracy on the kick. Durcan seemed to point this out to the umpires but nothing was done.

What was strange though goldrick is that JoD had loads of time to go down and pick up the ball to stop it going for a 45, but instead he just gently rolled it over the end line. It just shows you that even one of the countries very best footballers can make bizarre decisions in moments of high pressure and drama, yet when an official does it people start talking about conspiracies. It was all very strange but that's what pressure can do to the mind. I actually think that what JoD done was so strange he may even have confused the umpire, I don't think any Donegal player even appealed the decision either.

yes I take your point Soma. If JOD thought it was going to be a 45 he did have time to save it. and if he thought it was going out for a goal-kick then why did he touch it..(and it did seem a deliberate touch) ... bizzarre indeed.

Well if he was the correct distance then he handled the ball so it should at least have been a free kick for that.
