Yes they have Cavanman: two regular league games, one league semi final and an AI final.

Thank you JP for this.

Certainly being first or being champions is all that matters.

Looking at the numbers to the right. We can see that the second biggest gap between any two teams is between Waterford and New York. Waterford play in the McGrath Cup. They play in the national league, the Munster championship and the qualifiers. New York get a hammering once a year. Alarmingly, the biggest gap is between the the 4th and 5th based teams. On this year, in reflection, this is about right.

The championship effectively started started the day that Kerry and Mayo played. There might have been other good games but they were between teams that had no hope of winning or teams that did playing beneath themselves in terms of intensity (Donegal v Derry for example or Mayo v Roscommon).

Who has the best chance of becoming top 4 (like premiership)? Who has the ability to play at the same intensity as Dublin, Donegal, Mayo or Kerry and beat them?

Monaghan? I think they have given it their all and have pushed hard at two stages and have just been denied a semi-final position on 4 stages.

Another Ulster team? possibly though not next year.

Cork? if they get Donegal passports and spend a few years up there learning to play as part of a team before they ever disgrace themselves again

Leinster teams? hammerings by Dublin teams shatter their confidence - no chance

Connacht teams? hammering by Mayo shatter their confidence

In summary I think these rankings are quite revealing and very fair.

Apologies> I thought Dublin had won the drawn league game. Good as really as I recall the shattered little face of Horan afterwards :-)

Anyway, Dublin are still clearly ahead of Mayo.

Hurlingdub Dublin have to prove themselves all over again because at this present moment in time Mayo are clearly ahead of Dublin going by semi final and final result, and we all remember the shattered little face on Gavin after being soundly beaten by Donegal bless!!!!!!!

Every team must prove themselves all over again including kerry. That's the nature of competition!

Gavin may have been shattered but I didn't hear him making excuses and blaming everything from the ref to the stadium for having been beaten!

I think the rankings are spot on.

how on earth can anyone claim that a one-off championship qualifier game (longford v derry) should dictate the rankings of those two teams.

Yes rankings are as correct as anyone could possibly do it.

This actually looks like a reasonably accurate system.
I love a bit of science behind these things.

Thanks for posting the table. I do like a bit of number crunching, confirms what I suspected all along, Kerry #1 with everyone else looking up at them!

dublin 5/4
kerry 4/1
mayo 6/1
cork 15/2
donegal 11/1
armagh 20/1

thats paddy powers verdict for next years all ireland
only 3 days after kerry were named champions
would seem not many people would label kerry the best team in the country

wouldn't read too much into those odds.

dublin have a team with a real chance of winning it and a huge population - therefore have more money down on them and are favourites. if 2 million ppl backed carlow, they would become favourites even tho they aint gona win it. .

the odds tend to reflect the public opinion
and most people would say yes kerry won the all ireland
but if dublin and kerry were to meet next weekend
who would you have your money on?

kerry..the odds are also taking into account the difficulty involved in winning all irelands back to back i imagine

Hill the first team that put it up to the dubs, gave them a good beating so it is fair to say that the dubs were the weakest team in the semi finals. The rankings are good but Sligo for example would have had a better year then Louth but are ranked lower on this list.

odds, by their nature, HAVE to reflect public opinion. that way, the bookie minimises his risk.
i.e. the team with the most money laid on them will be "favourites" regardless of the likelihood of them winning - so in this instance, Dublin have a huge population who genuinely believe they will win Sam next year and have backed them heavily, making Dublin strong favourites.
