Barry John Keane - Bad Form

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

lads , just because other people have done this it doesn't make it OK. in fact more reason why something should be done.

I am not alone in my thinking that this type of cynicism is destroying the game. and people on here saying the would "expect" their team mates to do the same shows just how far we have fallen.

The game yesterday was full of cynisism, constant fouling and blocking and off the ball incidents.. horrible stuff.
along with poor officiating it all left a very bad taste in the mouth. no wonder the brits couldn't made head or tail of it.
nobody could as it's impossible to figure out what is a legitimate tackle, what contact is allowed etc.
also 2 umpires and a referee missed the fact that brian kelly clearly touched the ball when darach O' Connor shot for goal, Not alone that but it was as clear as day that JOD then touched it before it went over the end-line. (I'm sure he wasn't bothered whether he touched it or not because it was a 45 anyway, however the eagle-eyed officials spotted neither touch. An absolute joke in front of 82,000 spectators and millions watching worldwide.

Interesting that most on here believe that the referee probably played nearly an extra minute at the end of the game as punishment for Keanes nonsense, and I would agree that this was the correct thing for the referee to do. However, when the clock finally comes in the referee will not have the option to add any extra time, and so we can expect to see a lot more of this type cynicism in the years ahead. Keane got punished this year by a referee using his discretion and common sense and it allowed Donegal a chance to almost score a goal, once the clock is in it will be much more rewarding to carry out such timewasting acts as it only gets stopped for injuries.

But would you not agree that it is more dirtier act than say Cavanaghs? This term gamesmanship is used when its a Kerry player but god help us if it was an Ulster player or Dublin even.

By the way I have to say I quite like Kerry and congrats to all their players and supporters but I have no time for JBK after these sort of actions. Completely uncalled for and then people query why there are so many rows and punch ups in Gaelic. Its because these actions are allowed (or go pretty much unpunished).

I'm not much of a guy for the inner working of the rule book but surely there should be some form on un-sportsman like conduct rules where the official should be able to issue reds on this.

The problem I feel with the rules within the GAA as I see them is that they are neither open or closed. There is a massive grey area and that's the problem I have. We added the black card last year which did nothing to help with cynicism. It actually just highlighted it to people and they then figured out other loopholes in the rules.

Overall we did have chances to win the game and didn't take them but that doesn't mean that issues like this (unsportsman) don't need to be resolved.

No matter if it happened on other occasions, it was against all that Kerry hold up as holy.. a petulant act.. and unsportsmanlike..

funny think is that Keane actually could have had a legitimate way of delaying the kick out, if he wanted to time waste he should have pointed out the Durkan was taking the kick from outside the 14 yard line and have made him move it back. Petty I know but would have been within the rules.

It was a silly thing to do, but nothing more than that. they way some people are reacting you would think he performed a human sacrifice in the small square. The ref added on time for it and it almost cost Kerry their win, but it wasn't the only bit of time wasting yesterday,( or most days at a football match) so let's not get all moralistic about it.

The act itself was harmless enough, and didn't really serve for anything, as the ref added time on, but it just looked so petulant, unnecessary and embarrassing you could say it brought discredit to the game.

Maybe we should of bought our goalkeeper out to waste a few mins taking frees.

Listen it didn't waste any time as the ref added on time at the end. What it did do is stop Durcan from being able to find a man uncontested from the kick out.

It was clever from BJK imo. Not nice or whatever but clever and probably the correct course of action. A yellow card for his troubles but that hardly mattered at that stage.

Cynical alright but probably the right call.

look it is not nice and I don't agree with it.

But I'd politely remind our friends from Tyrone that a Tyrone player did exactly the same thing in the dying moments of the 2005 final.

no thread then ....

But then again we are Kerry and high standards are expected from us.

OK It was unsporting behaviour (but the ref added on extra time) but as I'm not going to start a new thread on a bigger issue I want to raise, I'll post it here instead.

Namely the ungracious nature of the Kerry captains acceptance speech.
He went out of his way to praise the referee (who did a good job it must be said) but didn't even mention Cormac Reilly.
Eaten bread and all that ;-)

Or was he being subtle !

Ye I don't know what he was thinking, I'd have kicked that ball onto the railway line!
