Donaghy...o donoghue sacrificed his game today for the good of the team and his chance of Player of the Year went with it

Altho...he will prob still get it

Just because a team plays to a specific defensive strategy does not mean than there cannot be great individual performances within that... To think otherwise is too simplistic.

McGee was exceptional all year in every game, won all of his individual battles against their marquee player and contributed to some of our best scores all year at the other end of the pitch

But max he did nothing in the biggest game of all compare to Connolly who was unreal against the blanket. I'm sorry man I like Donegal people I just think the blanket is the death of our game and find it very hard to give credit to a back who has so much cover and help from 13 other players.

Did nothing? You don't have to score to have a good game. You did see that he was around midfield for the entire game setting up the play right? You did see him winning ball, drawing the man and laying it off for his teammates in better positions? You did see him playing excellent kick passes setting up scores?

Did nothing?

In fairness the award is for the best footballer throughout thewhole year from jJanuary to October when the award is given and some of the guys mentioned only performed in august and September but mind you the Clare hurlers only did that last year and got team if the year Haha
Connolly was outstanding for Vincents on their way to winning the all ireland giving one of the best performance in a final and then carried that form into q Dublin Jersey throughout the summer. Had he have scored the goal chance in the semi final he be a shoe in as Dublin would have been winning back to back all Ireland titles today

I agree with Bob and thought O Donoghue had a decent game. To say he did nothing is silly. Although he didn't score he was on a lot of loose ball and set up a few scores with quality kickpassing. I think he did more than enough to merit getting the POTY award. He was MOTM in 3 games and his display against Cork was the best individual display of the season IMO (although the marking was shocking). I think David Moran will be a close second but he didn't get his first start till the first Mayo game when Bryan Sheehan got injured against Galway. Connolly was unreal against Donegal and is prob the most talented footballer in the country but he was average in one or two championship matches so doubt he'll get it. Defo shud get an all star tho. Think Donaghy will pick up the MOTM tonite. Will be interesting to see if he will pick up an allstar, would prob mean leaving Murphy out which I cant see happening.

Donaghy. Did what needed to be done at the right time. He's the main reason Kerry won the All Ireland in my view. Huge influence on final and both Semi Finals. They are the games that matter.

As player of the year almost always comes from the All Ireland champions I would have to agree with O Donoghue.

people saying donaghy deserves it should take a look back to last year
when bernard brogan was being mentioned as player of that year and it was classed as rubbish that he
only played two good games the semi final and the final.
its player of the year not most influential player in deciding who wins the all ireland

Player of the year has to be JOD. Unreal scoring from play this year and it a massive threat.
Donaghy had another great game yesterday but he has only played 2 games. He won MOM which I think is right enough but he shouldn't get POTY.

Paul Flynn, Connolly are the other 2 I would mention. I would love to see a Donegal player nominated but cant see it. Neil McGee, Gallagher (although the game somewhat got away from him yesterday) and Murphy have all been great this year. Out of them Murphy is the only one I can see maybe getting nominated.

In all seriousness this is a no contest, Michael Murphy is head and shoulders above any other player in Ireland this year. He is pure class and nearly won it on his own for Donegal.

looking at the team of the year last night on sunday game. strange why no armagh player(s) made it. the played 7 championship games (more than any other county this year) these analysts have short memories. some of the players they picked had maybe 2 or 3 good games, that was it.
