Taught about him Brolly..its a pity he wasnt about 2005 until the present day,he was brilliant, score of either foot and had pace to burn any defender.

Should of gotten more out of him during the late 90's.

Dermot Earley. This man epitomised what a cult hero is full stop. Another Ros post mentioned Francie Grehan and while he was a fine footballer he was no where near Earley and the cult status he fashioned for himself. I met him a number of times and from the moment you shook his hand and it was a powerful shake you just knew that you were in the presence of a legend . I personally would like to mention Harry Keegan who was a serious defender and wore the Rossie jersey with great distinction for years. Getting back to Earley and his last Connaught final for Roscommon. After being well beaten by Mayo he is lifted shoulder high by TJ Kilgallon and Willie Joe Padian. An absolutely tremendous piece of sportsmanship, gives you a sense of the esteem of how Earley was held and showed the greatness and graciousness of the Mayo duo. You don't see so many acts of sportsmanship today. Also on a personal note as a Roscommon man I thought Micky Quinn, Padraig Joyce and Eamon O Hara were true treasures of the game !

There have been a lot of favourites of mine down the years in hurling in no particular order Cormack (The Viking) Bonner he really looked the part with the beard, missing front teeth and helmet with the face guard. He was an important cog in a great full forward line along with 2 more favs Pat Fox & Nicky English. Others were Donie O'Connell, Declan Ryan, John Leahy, Joe Hayes a great character. Also Noel Sheedy and Bobby Ryan & Colm Bonner. Full back from 2001 AI winners Philip Maher and wing back Eamon Corcoran On the present team Patrick (Bonner) Maher the heartbeat in the forwards, Brendan and Padraic Maher and Shane McGrath. Sorry I can't pick just 1, so many choices ;-)

From Down - Peter Withnell in the early 90s putting Mick Lyons over his shoulder and lately Kalum King. When the game got more physical in the 2000s Down got pushed around for a few years until Big Kalum showed up and guess what, no more messing with Down!

Greg McCartan was an animal in midfield for us in the 90s and earky 2000s

Others - Geoffrey McGonigle - dual star legend from Derry built like a tank or the Antrim goalkeeper Niall Patterson.

Francie Bellew of Armagh. The best full back of his generation. Declan Browne from Tipp would have been seen as one of the all time greats if he played for another county, great player.
