Was it around 96 or 97 that Meath and Offaly played a couple of epic clashes? I remember one really high scoring encounter that ended in a draw.

That must be the 1997 LF Lockjaw, Offaly beat Meath 3-17 1-15, don't think it was a replay!

Meath V Kildare went to 2 replays in 97. Jody Devine scored 5 points as a sub in 1st replay.Offaly beat Meath in Leinster Final then

Sorry yeah I got the games confused. I remember the drawn Kildare games alright. Yer man Devine was as cool as a cucumber slotting over points to get Meath back in it. Wasn't there a forward called Claffey who did the damage for Offaly against Meath in the final if my memory serves me correctly?

Yeah that would be Vinny Claffey, a fine player!

Bennybunny, isnt your question slightly oxymoronic itself, for how could we forget the game you mentioned,if barely any of us have seen it?

Yeah I think the 97 saga between Meath and Kildare is often only a afterthought of 91 4 in row with dubs. However I have often thought that the quality of football in those Kildare encounters were higher. They were some games. Jody what a performance. What a pity it isn't on archives just to show what a epic efforts were put in, that second game would rank right up there as the greatest game of all time between what could be described as the best two teams in country at the time.

Clare/Galway AI QF '99, Clare /Tipp Munster semi, same year. Clare looking down'n'out, came back and won a replay in both.
KK/Galway AIQF '97.
KK/Tipp Lge Final '03.
Cork/Offaly AI Semi '99.
OY/KK Lein Final '95, played in a downpour but great display from Offaly. Broke my heart on many an occasion they did.

Football : Dubs/Kerry Semi '13.

1985 All-Ireland Hurling Semi. Galway upset Cork in front of only 9 000 or so in Croker. Lashed rain all day, and all during the match. Think this was also O'Hehir's last match commentating.

Another that I as at and a great game was the Offaly v KK Leinster Final in 1980. Goals going in all over the place. 3-17 to 5-10 Final score and Math Ruth was man of the match even though he lost.

What a shame Micheal O'Hehir didn't get to retire on his own terms like Bill o'Herlihy did, dv all today's broadcasters will stay fit'n'well enough to do so.
Was at the 1980 Lein Final myself - IIRC ( I was 14 ) KK fans were genuinely happy for Offaly that day, the thinking being that it'd be a one-off. All that goodwill was eroded by 1998...!

I haven't watched this in years, but I remember Sligo v Tyrone in the last 12 in Croke Park in 2002 was an absolute stormer of a game! Sligo went on to lose to Armagh in the quarter finals, and Armagh went on to win the whole thing.
The Armagh v Dublin semi-final that year was a great match too.

Maybe that's because Meath and Dublin were as busy off the ball as they were on it :D
But in fairness that was a decent Kildare side!
