Alright, maybe not the dark ages but I'm not so sure about this:

"it was a call to properly reward winning teams for their efforts"

I think it's the first chapter of Donal Og's book where he describes the KK reaction to supporting the GPA (help improve player welfare etc etc)i.e they wouldn't. So maybe if you changed to "it was a call to properly reward KK for their efforts" then it would be more accurate.

Didn't Ger Loughnane also make some comment at the height of his managerial prowess about not wanting the Munster Hurling final to turn into a pansies' bunfight?

Whatever about wanting physicality (legally of course), O'Connors comments were a personal insult to Barry Kelly. It's another example of hurling snobbery as valley mentioned. No way would this comment (or Duignans earlier this summer) have been made if the ref was from Cork for example

Great work from agent Eddie. The pressure is ratcheting up on Kelly as we speak.

For me Barry Kelly has improved greatly over the last few years and in my opinion he is currently the top hurling ref in the country.

Kelly wouldn't be bothered in the slightest what anyone has to say, the rest of us have to endure this childish pre-match claptrap every year.

Hurling in general should be left flow as long as no-one is acting the b******* ad trying to hurt an opponent. Kelly tends to be strict on players holding the stick up to opponents throats when they are in posession. Some people don't think that ought be penalised, apparently :-)

Kelly penalized Tipp an awful lot in the Limerick game something like 1-08 of their total came from placed balls. And rightly so Tipp were punished and I think we have learned from that.

So I don't think any team holds the advantage of having Barry Kelly as referee.

I have seen a picture of Barry Kelly with a slogan on it......

TIPP + REF V KILKENNY...SUNDAY SEP 7th CROKE PARK.

Are some Kilkenny people really that worried Barry Kelly is an advantage to Tipp ? I don't think so.
