Donegal easily better team on the day. Congratulations to them. Swings and roundabouts. This Dublin team haven't gone away. They'll be there or thereabouts next year. Some of the whingers on here should take note. It's not about money, population, venue etc. Belief, hunger, application etc win matches. It 15v15 once the white line is crossed. Best of luck to them in final.

I'd imagine there'll be a lot of alias' popping up over HS in the next few days. The Dublin arrogance before this game on this website meant nearly everyone outside Dublin wanted a Donegal win.

What a sad, sad post. We'll take the trophies we've won this year like the league and Leinster plus memorable victories such as Omagh and against Monaghan. The dubs will be back even stronger and playing football. I can't say the same for your county buddy but sure you can support Donegal. Well done Donegal! I thought we'd be in for a hard day and so it turned out.

Well done to Donegal and hard luck to Dublin. They were great champions. It is very difficult to win back to back All-Irelands. Fair play to the Dublin posters for their graciousness in defeat.

If Diarmuid Connolly scores his goal in the first half it's game over. But it wasn't to be. We'll done Donegal, can play attacking football also!!

I'm glad to say I'm not too down, I really admired Donegal's victory they were great and as I mentioned during the summer, we should have employed a sweeper. But in a weird way, it's nice to be the challenger again, if Donegal play like that they'll probably win it out, and good luck to them!

This thread looks like it was set up simply to take delight in Dublin's defeat.

While I wanted Donegal to win, I am not going to rub any of the Dublin fans' noses in it.

I will instead offer my genuine opinion on where this Dublin team comes up short and can improve. I know some of my opinions are poles apart from those of the majority of Dublin fans, but sometimes it takes a neutral view to say it as it is. . .

Goalkeeper - There's no doubt Dublin have found a system they are happy with using Cluxton's quick, short kickouts to gain primary possession. But I think they have really neglected the importance of a shot-stopper. Again today, goals killed Dublin with Cluxton at fault for the 1st two. Worringly for Dublin, their u21 and minor keepers seem to be in the same mould.

Full-back line - Individually, the Dublin full back line are fine players, but they don't seem to be able to deal with a high direct ball into a big full forward. O'Carroll will usually break it away from a big forward, but the 2nd ball seems to fall to the opposition more often than not.

Half-back line - no real issue here. It's a good line with the right mix of pace and steel.

Midfield - O'Sullivan and particularly MacCauley are fine players in their own right. But I'm not sure they compliment each other so well. I thought Dublin should have worked harder on developing Fennell into the player he could have been.

Forwards - I havn't split this into the 2 lines as they're fairly interchangeable. But the one thing that seems clear; when Bernard plays badly in the big games, Dublin struggle. He is by far and away the best forward Dublin have and brings the best out of others - Connolly in particular.

On today's game in particular, I thought Jim Gavin got it wrong starting O'Gara. Brute force was never going to trouble Donegal.
Saying that, I thought keeping McBrearty on the bench until the game opened up was an absolute masterstroke from McGuinness. Tactical battle won hands down.

cavanman47 I promised some of the boys on here months ago that I would be on the case as soon as they got knocked out in response to plenty of banter that was going on at the time - Dublin always add plenty to the Championship and their supporters are always good for the banter - hence the thread.

Take note everyone and stop with the over reaction to Dublins recent success.
And that is to non Dubs and Dubs alike.

Sure we'll win it next year...

Still one hell of a panel now with massive motivation

We're U-21 AI Champions, League and Leinster Champions

We still have a lot to look forward too

And you'll still be from Antrim naysayer...

:)

Well done to Donegal, better team on the day won

Dublin GAA has had a lot worse days than today, we ain't going anywhere...

Up the Dubs... lads, Dublin lads...

Chin up, we deserved to be beaten today...

Well said Jim. Sure we have 24 of these already!! This team will be back no question. They will have learned an awful lot from today. You'll get a lot of bitter non-Donegal people on here now to stick it to the dubs but we can laugh at them and where their countes finished this year. We have the league and Leinster and while Sam escaped this time we'll chase him down next year.

Up the Dubs!

The great Dublin one-in-a-row team

Look, I'm not sure today is a day for this discussion. The capital are a great team and were great champions. A good number of players followed up their '11 All-Ireland with another All-Ireland last year. We possibly are looking at a period of Donegal-Capital dominance. Mayo look like challengers but have come up that bit short. My own county while still there in the championship are very much a team in transition.

Really only a handful of Dubs posters on this site would have considered the Dublin team invincible. The rest of us who leave in the real world, are over the age of 15, and know GAA would have known that Donegal were a serious team and that for the last 25 years to win a semi-final a team has to play for the whole 70+ mins at their best. Donegal did, they played like the All Ireland champions they were and Dublin just weren't able for it today. That's football, next year they'll be back as will all of the teams who'll feel they underperformed this year. As I've said here before you only find out in September who the best team is. Flattering wins over Cork (poor team), Derry (poor team), Meath (poor team) and Monaghan(knackered) were just that - flattering. Looking forward to an exciting final.

Shows what's wrong with the championship, Dublin have one bad day and are gone. They were beat fair and square today but have no chance to recover. That is why the championship should be played on a proper league basis, not on a cup knockout system.

The only solice i can take out of today is that people can now see what some of us Dublin posters have been saying , although our voices were swamped by the noise of a few people to proclaim this team unbeatable. It was 2012 All Ireland Winners against 2013 winners. 15 against 15.It was always going to be a tough match. Donegal battled harder and the loss of last year to Mayo was a huge motivator ,this is why back to backs are so hard to win. I hope it will be the same for us next year. These are amatuer players who are only human and every team can play poorly on a given day. Again Well done Donegal your tactics were spot on today .

I think naysayer is having a tongue in cheek response to some of the massively overhyped stuff that has come out in the last year or so about Dublin. They are a indeed good side but articles and columns have been written by GAA pundits and sports media alike that this Dublin side were the best team ever seen in Gaelic football and it just wasn't true. There seemed to be a God like status growing up around Dublin and anyone who didn't buy it into was a heathen and you just weren't allowed a polar view. On a few occasions I mentioned that there was The Emperors New Clothes syndrome about Dublin and anyone who said other than they WERE invincible was ridiculed for it. Cork showed in the League semi final first half that Dublin COULD be got at and they could ship scores if the pressure was put on them but the difference between Cork and Donegal was that Donegal sustained it for 70 mins. Many within the media and hallowed GAA halls should do a bit of navel glazing and self contemplation about what they said and broadcast the past while regarding the Dublin 'superpower'. It was a total insult to the great GAA teams of the past and many present sides.

No team or sports person is ever unbeatable. Roger Federer, Barcelona even the great Kilkenny team have been caught. Dublin were outplayed today, their defence has looked vulnerable since the league. I honestly think Dublin had a better defence under Pat Gilroy. Thoughts?
