If Donegal beat Dublin this year it will be a shock, but not a huge shock considering the good players Donegal have and their experience over the past few years. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3738 - 28/08/2014 12:09:17 1643398 Link 0 |

There is not a hope in hell that Donegal will beat Dublin, the All Ireland is Dublins to lose, and that is a situation that will not change much while Jim Gavin stays in charge of Dublin. gilly0512 (Galway) - Posts: 1176 - 28/08/2014 12:46:13 1643431 Link 0 |

I don't expect Donegal to beat Dublin on Sunday, however it will not be a huge shock if they do and neither in my opinion will it be bad for football. In any sport individuals or teams play to their strengths and try to exploit their opponents weaknesses. Donegals strengths are defending in numbers and perfecting the tackle to try and win the ball back. Dublin can be defensive when it suits them and work extremely hard to win back possession, albeit higher up the field. Games don't need 40 or 50 scores to be entertaining as a low scoring game featuring top class defensive play can be equally fascinating.Anyway we'll probably look back at old DVD's in 20 years time and marvel at how slow and ponderous this Dublin team was as the new kids on the block kick points from inside their own half and run 100 metres in seven seconds flat. Life will still go on,hopefully!!! Llaw_Gyffes (Mayo) - Posts: 1113 - 28/08/2014 13:12:38 1643456 Link 0 |

It would be viewed as a shock, but it shouldn't be. Massive amount of press talk and bullsh1t odds are contriving to make it the shock that it would be viewed as. Podge8395 (Dublin) - Posts: 38 - 28/08/2014 13:53:34 1643483 Link 0 |
No it wouldn't be a huge shock. Donegal have a very capable set of players, are very fit, and contrary to evidence in the Armagh game, are usually very well setup. You cannot dismiss any team with attributes like that. Very good Dublin teams have fallen at smaller hurdles in the past and I've been through enough of those bad days to know that you don't write-off any opponent. Shock defeats to Donegal and others in the 90s, to Kildare in the Leinster Final in the 00s and to Westmeath under Paidi come to mind plus drubbings dished out by Tyrone and Kerry in the 00s of course. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent Dublin team and I think we will edge it on Sunday but would not be bowled over if Donegal grind out a result. And if they do then fair play to them. I'll be devastated myself but happy enough for some decent Donegal posters on HS here. Joxer (Dublin) - Posts: 4700 - 28/08/2014 14:00:38 1643491 Link 0 |

I would have made the Donegal of 2012 the favourites for this game but they are just not the same side; they don't have the scoring power that Dublin do and they way Mayo steamrolled them last year shows that they can be opened up by fast attacking play. The Donegal heads went down very quick against Mayo and if Dublin get an early lead it could be the same again. I would love Donegal to beat them and shut quite a few arrogant Dubs, media and GAA people up but the fact is Dublin will be too fast and fit for them and their bench is very strong too. Mayo if they play for 70 mins like they did in the second half at the weekend are the only team capable of beating Dublin this year.
