It now seems the capacity of the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick is a lot less than the 50,000 quoted.

"Munster Council officials, who are overseeing preparations for the clash, last night revealed that the stadium will have a capacity of close to 44,500. There will be reserved seating in the stand and that accounts for about 21,000 seats."

It was a 50k stadium a few years back. Must be due to the recent health & safety regulations that have decreased most stadiums capacities.

We will play Kerry in Peig's sitting room or An Blaiscead Mor if we have to. At half time on Sunday every Mayo person would have gladly taken a replay in Limerick.. Just hope it doesn't do an Angela's Ashes and lash rain. Limerick, City of Culture, now is your time to shine.. Maigh eo abu

It's awful to compare limerick to hell, limerick is a beautiful county and city and we'll all have a great day there weather we win or lose.

When was the last time Kerry played in the Gaelic grounds in any grade does anyone know? Limerick play their u21 and minor matches in Newcastlewest and for the life of me I can't remember the last time Kerry seniors played there. Whenever it was there were very few of this senior team involved so the Mayo thing about Kerry being used to the place doesn't really make sense

Kingdomboy1 - I have not compared Limerick to hell. Just stating I would go anywhere we are required to play. Please don't misquote me. I have great time for for Limerick people and the city.

Mike - We played in 2012 beating Clare in 4 th round qualifier.

How far is the train station to the pitch? Can you walk it? Heading down from Meath.

Its a good way from the train station. You will probably have no choice to walk though as there will be a massive crowd heading out that way from the city centre

Westkerry it's a fair trek. Nearly as far as the walk from the station in Cork to Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Mike03, Kerry played us a few years back, I would say 2011 in the Gaelic Grounds and gave us the run around on the same night. It was my one and only time in the "red seats". I will be there on Saturday for a great evening out.

I don't mind a different venue for an odd occaion, it will be a better atmosphere in Limerick on Saturday no doubt. The reason why I'm annoyed is the crap the GAA are filling us with about why it cant be played in Croke Park, they have contradicted themselves big time over this.

Another reason that is annoying me if that attendance at last game was 52+ thousand. Capacity for Gaelic Grounds is 44+ thousand. Nobody should lose out to getting a ticket due to the GAA's ignorance on choosing this venue, especially fans who made the journey to attend the drawn game (they should be given first preference over tickets for replay).

Anyway I don't think it will bother either set of players too much and hope there is no controversial decision that would need hawk eye to intervene.

The game on in Limerick is just as a drag for Kerry folk.
It would take me 2 hours to get to Limerick just as long as many Mayo ppl but Kerry are going to hit Adare and Abbeyfeale where both towns are going to turn intop car parks before and after the game.

But in the grander scheme of things Kerry and mayo should have known the replay was going to be in Limerick and objected prior to last Sunday.
Also personally I am happier the replay is on this weekend instead of waiting for a further weekend......LET's GET IT ON!

Bitterly disappointed we're not playing in CP this weekend but it what it is. Pretty sure both teams and sets of fans would prefer CP any day. No doubt about it but it will be more of a trek for many of the north Mayo faithful, even with the chunk of motorway, but no bother with the likes of ceefar and Yewtree! Well done boys, great attitude. No hop, skip or jump for those coming up from south kerry either, but we've traveled further. No complaints there.

I can't accept that the Gaelic Grounds presents a huge advantage to the kerry team (kerry fans, yes!). A pitch is a pitch, and both sets of players will play on 15/20 different fields in a year between club and county. Can't see how this experienced Mayo team could be disadvantaged by it, I'm sure they'll be just getting on with it without much wringing of hands or gnashing of teeth. Kerry have played many more games in croke park than limerick over the past few years. In fact I believe they've only played there a couple/few? times in the last decade and some of them have never played senior championship there at all. Some pundits (Eamonn O Hara, I'm looking at you) have said its like asking kerry to go up to pearse in Galway...nonsense. That analogy would only be correct if the game was on in pairc ui caoimh.

For those of you who don't fancy the round trip, Limerick is SOME craic! Deadly city and the people are sound as you'll meet.

As an aside, can we get Kerry Group to do some sort of subsidised flag scheme for us? Distinct shortage of them in Croker on sunday. Could hardly the pitch for Mayo flags every time they scored.
