Mayo v Kerry Semi Final Replay - Limerick Sat 30th

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

All-Ireland football semi finals have been played previously outside of Croke Park,i.e. Thusles and Cork. It is not setting a precedent. There should be no rules saying games should not be played outside of Croke Park. Stadia have been built to facilitate and to maximize attendances. I believe the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday will maximize the attendance for the GAA. I also believe the Gaelic Grounds will be no hindrance to Mayo winning the Match. The Gaelic Grounds has an excellent playing surface.

so muck will you be on the hill next sunday?
donegal sent back some hill allocation today so you can buy one online now before it sells out tonight haha

No hill, I will be in my usual spot, amongst my own, high up in the Davin Stand near the scoreboard.

Having said that, if the only ticket I could get was a hill16 ticket then I believe that I am as entitled to it as any Dub.

Dont forget Fainleog the gaelic grounds also has one of the worst stands in the country for watching a game from. If the GAA think the max attendance for next sat will be 40k then they're not with it. You can add 50% for the Kerry crowd from yesterday for starters - people will be left with out tickets and thats not what anyone wants. Although they might be the lucky ones - its going to be pure carnage traffic wise around Limerick next sat..cant wait for the delayed start time!!

Such is the paucity of public transport in this country that Dublin is the only place anyone can get to and have a pint as well. Nothing wrong with Limerick, Thurles etc. as venues.

I don't see too many posters from Kerry complaining that the match is been played in Limerick. The GAA said that it would not expect a crowd greater than 40,000 if the Kerry V Mayo match should be replayed on a Saturday evening in Croke Park.It is clear from past games that Saturday evening matches do not attract the same attendances as on a Sunday. If there is going to be the huge extra numbers of Kerry people attending on Saturday next, it is because Limerick will be far more convenient than Dublin. Hence, a wise decision to play the game in the Gaelic Grounds.

that usual applies to matches that saturday doesnt attract as big a crowd as sunday
that part is defo true but
they are not all ireland semi final matches
take last years all ireland hurling final replay
they had a full house on the saturday evening despite media reports it possibly would have empty seats
all ireland semi finals and finals are differant crowd wise to the rest of the year
like or not you will get a lot of people going to them that werent going all year
and 52 thousand went on sunday
if the rail strike wasnt on id say would have been around 60 thousand
the match was a cracker thus leading a lot more supporters and neutrals to want to go to the replay
so you would have been looking at between 55-60 thousand in croker
where as at the moment the gaelic grounds can only accomadate 45 thousand(unless they meet health and safety requairments by saturday)
the fact that limerick is closer to kerry if limerick had the capacity id say you will have around 65 thousand wanting tickets
when you consider the novelty factor for people from limerick of all ireland semi final being played in their own town
you can be sure at least 5 thousand will get their hands on tickets

Hill 16 - There are plenty tickets available for sale at present, when the 45,000 tickets are sold, you can then worry about the other 20,000 who you say will not be able to get their hands on same.
There should be a great atmosphere at the game.

haha thats because not many people know they are on sale
sad to say but there does be absolutly no advertising from the gaa about tickets on sale times and dates
the mackey stand is not going on sale and the uncovered stand will go very quickly
it will be terrace tickets that will be availble during the week mainly.
should be a great atmosphere i agree if they serve up as good a match as yesterday
you should have a great night

Would have loved for the replay to be in CP. I should be in Dublin at around 2-30 on Sat so would have taken in the game. Also how many more Donegal fans would have gone plus I'd say a few Dubs also. ( would have given us Donegal fans a chance to spy on our All Ireland final opponents) HaHa
But getting back to the game on Sat evening I thought Mayo /Kerry would have taken a firmer line What if both teams refused to play. The way things are going and what with Sky there could come a time when some counties should say enough is enough and take a strong line and stand by it.
There are certain things that should be made clear at the start of the year --- Croke Park for Gaelic games only in August/September. Would starting the championship a week or so earlier help out in the event of a draw like yesterday. Have all the provincials finals finished by the second week of July.

We would urge as many Mayo supporters as possible to get tickets for the replay in Limerick. We need as much support as yesterday, if not more! We need to turn the Gaelic Grounds into a #seaofgreenandred

It should be on in Croker no doubt but personally I can't wait to see it being played down in a packed limerick, Sunday was a great game but the empty spaces in Croker take away from the occasion a little bit IMO, like seeing a player kicking a point on the reverse camera angle into an empty hill doesn't look right for a big semi final game IMO

The thing is folks, if the Dubs were involved;
this game would never be moved from Croke Park!
Its an absolute disgrace!

Irish Rail are doing some good dead for the match. Looks like reasonably_priced accommodation Ian't that easy to find in and around Limerick for Saturday night.

A pitch is a pitch, the decision is set in stone now and both camps will just get on with it. Personally, I don't fancy making 4 hour trip up to Dublin and then same back down again twice in 6 day period.

Pitch is a lot tighter than Croke Park which will disadvantage Kerry and suit Mayo's physical style, but hopefully that will be negated by our familiarity with the ground itself and fact its proximity to Kerry which should mean we outnumber Mayo's support.

What I would be ensuring is that, if tickets become scarce towards end of the week, anyone with proof they attended the drawn game should be given priority.

Another, point I want to make is why Kerry are always asked to wear blue when playing Mayo these days. The green and gold is most famous jersey in the GAA and I'd be more forceful about making sure we get to wear it, its not too often NZ are dictated to when it comes to taking off their All Black shirts.

I also hope the rain holds off, I've only managed to get terrace tickets and the Gaelic grounds is a cold place at best of times. I was shivering the night we played Clare down there in qualifier in 2012 even though it was height of July!!

Saying all that, anyone else hoping for a draw in Dublin/Donegal game and winners of this Saturday coming out and stating they will refuse to play in the final unless the other replay is also taken out of Croke Park???

Tbf posters if the Dublin Meath game was a draw they were moving the replay to Thurles cause of the Garth brooks concert and there was 65 thousand at the Leinster final so they were taking the hit no matter what.

They'll finsh the job in Limerick no doubt about it imo.

Kerry's jersey posses a physiological edge when opponents are faced with, maybe its only a small edge but it counts a lot in tight contests. Why do France always try and insist on All Blacks changing to their away strip when they play in World Cups for example? And if you don't think our jersey posses it, you need only look at championship records between my own and yours over last 50 years!

If I was Kerry I'd appear in green and gold next Saturday, leave Mayo wear whatever they want...
