The GAA run the risk of this happening by staging foreign events. It was the same with the Bruce Springsteen concerts. Had they gone ahead there was no place in Leinster fit to hold the Leinster Final replay (if it was required). In my opinion between July 1st and September 31st, Croke Park should be a GAA only stadium.

I disagree and think Croke Park should host as many special events as possible. Unlike the IRFU and the FAI we don't have the ability to earn money from international TV rights so need to make it up in other ways.

Why not play it in Croker the Saturday after Dublin Donegal game? I don't know if anyone has made this point but if Dublin Donegal draw they'll have to play that day in Croker so why not Kerry Mayo??

Breaking News: Mayo County Board going to ask croke park to postpone the match to Saturday week.

Double header in Croker next week maybe?

Jack Goff - GAA matches should get priority especially at this time of year. I am not against hosting concerts and American Football but they shouldn't interfere with All-Ireland semi-finals.

former poster i'm of the view that the AI series shouldn't be exclusive to Croke Park. For example Limerick v Kerry AI QF in 2011 had about 10k fans at it. Should have been down in Munster.

Why do Donegal have to enter the borders of Dublin to play Dublin? Your point is irrelevant.

The American Football should go ahead. On this occasion if the Footballers want Croke Park let them wait. The American Football is a great boost to the local economy for the weekend and its show boating Croke Park. The fixture was organised long before the championships
started and Croke Park are honoring their commitment.

I would imagine tickets would be the problem here.
With the Donegal/Dublin game nearly sold out where would the Mayo/Kerry folk get tickets from?
I would have thought that most people at the first game would stay on for the second game & you can't sell a seat twice!!

From an economic point of view it's great. Limerick and Dublin both getting big boosts. Many Limerick business owners will be holding their breath with the Mayo appeal.

The American Football is only a schools game. Imagine the Americans moving around the semi-finals of the Superbowl to accommodate a Hogan Cup match because that's happening here only it's the other way around? The GAA should stick to it's values and tell the Americans they'll have to wait.

Total disrespect for the players from both counties IMO. A 6-day turn around and a trip to Limerick is the reward for a classic second half of football.

Pay for what? Croke Park is already paid for and in the black now. It's a poor day when American football is compromising the closing stages of the Championship and worst still compromising the players welfare. Seems to me that Joe Brolly is right - we're on a slippery slope where money comes before players and supporters.

Royal blue, you know all those top class club facilities all over the country? And various stadium upgrades like the new 40k seater in belfast or the new 45k stadium in cork? They are paid for with money earned from the events including concerts and american football in croke park.

County boards also get a lot of money to help cover their county teams costs which can be pretty big. The GAA help fund 100 full time coaches in Dublin. Take the concerts and events like this away and you will see a big reduction in all of the above.

Sorry Hill I'll explain it better; why not play it Saturday the 6th? Cause if Dublin and Donegal Drew they'd have to play on the 6th, so im presuming we won't draw so it's free for Mayo and Kerry to play on the 6th, you get me? Like Michael Lyster said they can't play it the 6th cause it's too close to the football final sure if we draw will have to play that date.

hill

"and disrespectful to the players on both sides" what about the hurlers playing in the AI the following day. CP is a great sod but its September and anything could happen with the weather, having a good sod is far more important to the hurling boys than football so yes the right decision is not to play the game before the Hurling AI.

your talking nonsense here
sure there was 2 all ireland quarter finals in football played on the saturday evening before
the limerick v kilkenny semi final the following day.
if anything the gaa showed little regard for the pitch by staging an american football match the day before
an all ireland semi final in football
as an american football match has differant markings and posts on the pitch
and the players will do much more damage in that sport to a pitch than a gaa game.

haha cheers mate
i do agree with staging all ireland quarter finals if crowd and geography makes sense outside of croke park
but all ireland semi finals for me are differant.
the quarter finals are generally double headers
but semi finals are the only gaa game on that day in either code
so deserve to be on the biggest stage.
the limerick city council were on their knees praying for brian sheehan not to land that last free id say haha
