Too many over the decades to put one over the other , I wouldn't agree that Cooper stands out on his own, each generation seemed to produce a Gooch-esque player!

Too many eras and too many different positions to compare fairly.

I would assess as follows:

Defender; Tomas O'Shea - Close call with Moynihan but Tomas was better on the ball IMO
Midfield - Jack O'Shea - Not as graceful as O'Connell but teak tough and powerful
Forward - Gooch - So many to mention. My selection is based on personal preference more than anything else, and possibly the fact that defences have tightened up in recent years and he still shone.

They weren't the greatest but three I loved watching were Liam O Flaherty and especially Eamon Breen of the team in 1997 and my all time favourite Paul Galvin.

Mick O' Connell is the greatest GAA player of all time and, by default, the greatest Kerry player of all time. Just ahead of our Matt.

John Egan I felt was the best forward on that Kerry team . No one has mentioned Ogie Moran who was a really classy, talented player .

I can only comment on those that I have seen in the flesh over the years.

As a young fella I always thought that Spillane and Jacko were top class and a thorn in the side of the dubs. Two great players

Gooch for me has it all. Low centre of gravity, two good feet and a great eye for a pass.

The one that got away was Maurice. I loved watching him play. His casual, languid style was a joy to behold. Should have reached greater heights with the talent that he had.

I was speaking to an a very elderly Kerry priest and a truly avid follower of Kerry football since the early 1920s. He had seen them all from Micko Doyle to Paddy Kennedy to Mick O'Connell up to that time and his verdict was that Jack O'Shea was the greatest Kerry footballer of all those ha saw.
