It was an interview promoting some college American football match.

Desperate stuff.

I agree about the music, totally overpowering. But what annoyed me more was the behaviour of the Limerick fans on the hill when Kilkenny were taking frees. The booing and jeering were disgraceful. This is starting to creep in more and more, a few other counties are well known for it too. The respect given to kickers in Thomond Park is exemplary, it's a pity to see fans resorting to this behaviour.

Tomsmith here

I remember when Cavan had great battles in All Irelands we had no music.
I think the first time this was done or heard was an old record played in Gaelic Park in New York when we played Kerry in the 1947 final (and we won ).That was the first time any type of music was played in a GAA field at a final.
Why not play a bit of C/W music or get past players who are in a wee band to perform.
I am told that recently people played at Croke Park that no one knew or listened too

I love music but the LOUDNESS OF IT is TOO MUCH and those feckin ADS.

Turn it down and as someone else said stop it 5 mins before the game and also before restart at half time.

It is very very ANNOYING (just like that writing in caps, small scale demo Croke Park if you are reading!)

i actually thaught the donegal song that came on after they won created an atmosphere for them and worked well.
depends on the song really as they often play a dreary version of molly malone when we win but on saturday
played the boys are back in town and was much better.
dont generally like it but saturday it did work well after both matches in my opinion.

Fester give me a break. I'm sick of people blaming limerick supporters for everything. At least they were there supporting their team. And as for the kilkenny supporters don't get me started!

BENNYBUNNY..........I'd have the Artane boys band have exclusive entertainment rights!!
I agree completely. we come to croke park for the football and hurling and the artane band have traditionally been part and parcel of the match day build-up adding to the atmosphere by playing county anthems from the competing teams.

1634439 Apparently it adds 'atmosphere' or helps sell ice-creams or something Ballydalane. You see you and me are old fuddy-duddies who like engaging in actual conversation with one another on match day. That day's past I'm afraid. You could simply admit defeat and become an iphone zombie.

Slightly off topic but there was a great camera shot in the minor game where a Kilkenny player had missed an attempt and the camera followed him as he ran back out the field. There were about 5 youngsters in Limerick jersays (ranging from maybe 11 to 13 ish) in a row who were all heads down and engrossed in their phones / tablets etc. with not the slightest bit of interest in the game. To be fair, I'd imagine / hope that if next weekend's minor match was on last Sunday, they might have been able to drage themselves away from Angry Birds etc.

1634426 " " Bad enough that thousands of hurling fans got soaked in the torrential rain, some genius in Croke Park decided it would be a great idea to barrage

people with incessant and BLARING music coming out of the speakers. Before a match I like to relax and watch the warm ups, have a chat with my neighbours etc. Couldn't do it this time with some brutal jazz music lacerating my ear drums. Am I the only one who thinks this carry on in Croker is ridiculous?

100000000000000000000000000% agree with you it was awful listening to that noise before between and after the match on sunday I couldn't hear myself think,i would plead with anyone that agrees/cares to e mail croke park to complain

I agree with hill about the music after the game.

My own arthritic old hips were even boogying to The Hills after the Donegal game but it is the racket leading up to and at half time that really annoys.

There seems to be general agreement that it is a bad thing. Perhaps through our clubs we do what some EPL clubs have done and have it stopped or curtailed?

Listen, we all follow our teams and pay good money for tickets and travel and whatever. This stuff is an intrusion on our time with our teams. We are paying to see matches and meet people and have the crack and maybe even call one another bollixes. This sterilisation of public space is unacceptable. What is it saying to us? Shut the fk up and listen to the ads. Give us your money and get out and don't be making a nuisance of yourself.

The video of Flynner and Alan going over to see that little girl Molly is all over the place but you can hardly hear them for the blare in the background. And then there's the little jobsworths in their luminous jackets standing behind them as if there was going to be some sort of incident!

Actually from the 1920s right up until the 1960s All Ireland finals were preceded by a rendition of 'Faith of our Fathers' sung by choir to accompaniment of Artane boys band with most of crowd joining in. And if you go back to very beginning of the GAA, a big draw to games was the half time entertainment provided by local bras bands etc. Music has always been part of the GAA match day, but I agree with everyone else this blaring of music right up till throw in, at half time and full time adds nothing. Was in Croker for first time this year for Galway match and I think the noise levels for it have got even worse than last year.

Still if you think its band in HQ, don't ever go to rugby match in Aviva or Thomond; stupid inane music blasted out after any score. Jesus if you can't gee up a crowd for even a home score, blaring music won't to a damn thing.

I don't know why the GAA are so slavishly following examples in British and American sports in this regards. Ireland is different, we have never had a tradition of chanting or singing at GAA matches, or county teams being identified with songs that are sung during games by supporters. Why bother with the music, we create an atmosphere with roaring and flags and as others have said, blaring music only serves to drown that out.

I suppose it wouldn't be "Radio GaGa" by Queen that you're thinking of?

I agree with everyone about the awful noise coming from the speakers. It totally destroys the atmosphere.

I'm not saying this because i'm from Limeick, but to blast out cool for cats straight after the final whistle with some Limerick players distraught and devastated on the pitch itself was in my view appalling.

Some day............I agree. What clown in Croke park thought this would be a good idea? Bring the artane band for some real atmosphere.
