In Roscommon, last night Brigids have transitioned smoothly into the semis along with the club most likely to stop their 5 in a row bid, Padraig Pearses who won this afternoon after being 7 points down at half time. Other two quarters involving Ros Gaels /St Faithleachs and Castlerea/Western Gaels ended in draws. There is a good chasing pack closing in on Brigids and we are having one of the better championships. Crowd of close to 2,000 in Kiltoom last night for double header Q-finals which is a very large crowd by our standards.

This Sunday its the Senior and Minor championship finals in Drogheda. In the Senior St Patricks are playing the Dreadnots and in the Minor the Newtown Blues are playing the Geraldines. The Pats will be favorites against the Dreadnots. The Pats have won five senior championships while the Dreadnots have never won the senior championship. This is a repeat of the final two years ago. Both managers Colin Kelly from the Dreadnots and Fergal Reel from the Pats are linked to the vacant Louth managers position.

In Galway, Corofin just thrashed Milltown 4-13 to 0-2. Milltown were expected to give them a good match. The fact that they left former under 21 player of the year Ian Burke on the bench shows how good their squad is(he scored 1-3 when he came on). In my opinion, Corofin will win Galway, Connacht, and then get very close or even win the All-Ireland. The other semi between St.Michaels and Bearna ended in a draw.

Take 1 look at a Mayo semi final result today Ballintubber 9-11 Knockmore 2-12, that's the senior championship and not an U12 match result. Cillian O'Connor scored 3-03, his 3 other brothers all scored goals aswell

Was at the double header yesterday: Castlebar 1-14 Garrymore 1-11 and Ballintubber 9-11 Knockmore 2-12.

In the first game Garrymore will be kicking themselves (11 wides) as Castlebar looked tired and were there for the taking.
The second game was just increadble viewing and Ballintubber (O'Connor's and Dillon especially) put on an exhibition....goal crazy. Hopefully Diarmuid O Connor can bring some of that to the Mayo setup next year....it was however too easy for them and now set's up as an interesting final wit their close neighbours. Hard to see Castlebar let in too many goals but Ballintubber now red hot favourites.

In the intermediate semi replay Hollymount/Carramore over came Belmullet on a 1-09 to 0-06 scoreline. They now play JKeith Higgin's Ballyhaunios team next Sunday in the final. New Mayo joint Manager Noel Connelly is manager of Hollymount/Carramore so their will be plenty of interest in that final.

In Antrim we are at the QF stage of the Senior football championship which are being played this weekend (only preliminary round played to date). As it stands the earliest the 'big 2' can meet i.e. Cargin and St Galls is the final and I don't see any other final pairing to be honest (you have to go back to 1998 to get a different winner) though anything can happen in Championship football.

Quarter Final pairings are:

St Johns v St Teresas
Creggan v St James, Aldergrove
St Pauls v St Galls
Cargin v Lamh Dhearg

In the Senior Hurling we have seen the dethroning of reigning Antrim Champions (winners for last 4 years) and previous All-Ireland winners, Loughgiel in the last round to Cushendall. The outright winner will probably come from the winner of the Cushendall/Dunloy pairing and if I had to stick my neck out would say Cushendall.

Semi Final pairings are:

Sarsfields v St Galls
Cushendall v Dunloy

Well we have moved on a bit from the last report from Antrim. No surprise (as predicted) Cushendall disposed of St Galls easy enough in the Senior Hurling final yesterday winning by 10 points on a score line:

Ruairi Óg 1-15 St Galls 1-5

Cargin have progressed to the Senior Football final after comfortable enough wins over Lamh Dhearg and St Teresas and await the winners of the other semi which is to be played this coming weekend and sees St Galls take on Creggan. Its still looking like the predicted St Galls v Cargin final.

In Cavan Cavan Gaels won on Saturday night to make their fourteen county final in fifteen years. A certain Sean Johnston scoring 1-7. The quarter-final between holder Ballinagh and Mullahoran was played last night with Ballinagh winning by 5 pts so they play Kingscourt this Sunday to see who will play the Gaels.

Kildare semifinal on this weekend, Athy v Sarsfields and Moorefield v Celbridge, The four strongest sides in the county at the moment and each of the 4 would be genuine contenders, should be two cracking games, i couldn't call a winner

Are Dr Crokes out of the Kerry championship?

In Cork we have:

Nemo v Ballincollig
Bishopstown v Carbery Rangers

4 uninspiring teams in my opinion. Hard to call. Probably Nemo but they are not great.

Hurling:

Sars in the final

Douglas v Glen Rovers must reply.

Again standard is middling. I hope Glen Rovers win.

none of the above to do anything in Munster championship.

St Patricks won the Louth senior championship yesterday. They beat the Dreadnots 1-10 to 1-08. This is their sixth title in twelve years which is remarkable considering they won their first ever senior title in 2003. Over half of the team have won all them titles including the great Paddy Keenan.

Yea bennybunny the Crokes are gone, Legion knocked them out in third round. Does anyone know when the Kerry champ resumes? The Clare champions must have a good chance of winning Munster?

In Meath, the football semis are on this weekend-Donaghmore Ashbourne play Na Fianna and Wolfe Tones meet favourites O'Mahony's. Last year's winners Summerhill made it through to the knock out stages by the skin of their teeth and lost out to the Tones in the quarters. The standard of club football in the county has been poor for years now and I don't see any of them making an impact in Leinster.
