Mayo v Kerry

Mayo to win.
Cant see them losing this game.

Most neutrals seem to be predicting a Mayo win also, and the bookies are seldom wrong... :o)

Odds on either Mayo or Kerry winning SAM are very generous:-

Mayo 13/2

Kerry 17/2

Too generous in fact in my opinion...

A very tight game to call. Mayo are rightly favourites.

I would stick Higgins onto o'Donoghue and try limit his influence. If they do that I think they are half way there.

I fancy Mayo by 3pts

It will be a great game either way. Both teams will go for it and it should be an entertaining game. I think Kerry really need to try and nullify Aidan O'Shea. He is the best midfielder in the country at the moment. Anthony Maher has not been at the races at all this year and I fear he will be destroyed by O'Shea. I would play David Moran instead of Maher. Kerry's forwards will cause Mayo problems but the supply of ball in there needs to be quick as I cannot see Mayo giving us too much time on the ball. Their tackling and intensity this year has been impressive and you can see the work Donie Buckley has being doing with them. Either way I cannot see either team beating Dublin in the final. I can see them doing to Donegal what Mayo did to them last year.

Mayo will win.

The move of Aidan O'Shea away from midfield (where's he's a liability) to half forward (were he can do more damage to the opposition) has been inspired imo. V impressed by him against Cork.

I'm gona call it the way I see it and I'm sorry if I insult anyone including my own county , Kerry could beat mayo but I don't think that would be a good thing for my county I think it wouldn't be a good thing for mayo to beat us either though because if we beat mayo it might set them back a few years whereas if mayo get through to the final and get another beating off the dubs which will happen it will send mayo football back to the stone age. I don't think my own county are ready for Dublin this year but we will be next year with tommy Walsh and gooch and a few young lads coming in we will be a serious animal next year .

He's a super footballer but against a good mobile midfield he's a liability imo. I thought it was a very smart move by Horan v Cork (haven't seen other Mayo games in detail this yearso not sure if he'd been there before).

He'll catch ball all day and make good bursts forward but he doesn't track his man going back. Last year's All-Ireland Final is a case in point, Cian O'Sullivan and later even Denis Bastic had the freedom of Croke Pk because O'Shea was nowhere to be seen at times. Take a look at Brogan's crucial second goal and you'll see what I mean.

My problem with Mayo is that they don't seem to have evolved from last year and with no new trick up their sleeve I feel they will come a cropper against a reinvented kerry side.

Yerra Fitzy will have a plan for the O'Se's don't you worry about that. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Fitzgerald's stadium for next two weeks. Do you think James Horan would be seriously tempted to try and sneak a spy in there to see what the Kerrymen are at?

Do Mayo train behind close doors these days and for that matter do Donegal and Dublin do so? Has anyone ever been caught trying to spy on rival team training in the GAA?

I wasn't a fan of closed door policy when I first heard Kerry deciding to do it, but considering the tactics Eamon has come up with to deal with the opposition in last two years, I'm not complaining now!

Came out of Croke Park on 3rd of Aug thinking Kerry would seriously struggle in the semi. Perhaps not as pessimistic now but still think Mayo might have too much. They're friggin huge! They're too strong in the middle and will break down through the center of Kerry's defence (where there are a couple of pairs of obviously tiring legs)with some ease. It will take serious tactical brilliance from fitzmaurice to shore up those areas. Can't see it on current form. Kerry are coming along nicely but they definitely haven't had any sort of a test this year. Unless fitzmaurice has an ace up his sleeve (and he might have!) Kerry will fall here. Still wouldn't be a bad season, were written off completely at the start of the year.

Some people use this line (like they did in 2011) "the sight of the green & gold jersey"!!!.....YAWN!!!

As O'Rourke said in 2011, rubbish, "its time for new heros to be made"!!!

Mayo need to make their own heros now!

The sight of the 'green & gold' is a losers attitude!

As I said in a different thread, 'once the head is right, one can show himself to be the master of all men'!!

I fancy Kerry. Mayo haven't been great so far, if O'Donoghue is on form he could be the difference. The guys capable of hitting 10+ on any given day, I don't think Mayo have that even though they're stronger in other areas.

An tseabhac - maybe my post wasn't cleat enough I meant after Kerry win in
Munster they are generally rusty and below par in the quarter finals.

Maybe my irony wasn't clear enough- 2006 and 2009 the qfs were unarguably our performances of the year. In fact, 2 of the greatest taispeántais na gCiarraíoch in my lifetime.
The other examples were all masterly- I could have included 2004 and 2005.

I see your point now though- since 2010 we have not played above par in a qf; even hammering Luimneach in 2011 was fairly anaemic.

when kerry play mayo it will be a diff world to the galway game
galway had no intensity or high tackle count or the strenght that mayo have
thers no way o donoghue or geaney will be taking handy scores like they did against galway

Sure we have only one player realy so if mayo TAKE care of JOD then they will win the game handy, I saw aidan o'mahony walking the beat in Tralee today, nice to see professionalism hasn't come to the kingdom yet. All our boys grafting away the way it should be.

mayo will dominate the midfield area
kerry very weak there
had problems there against the two young lads from galway
lack of pace in kerry defence
mayo will get in behind them
and send the kerry boys home early for the long journey home
