Mayo v Kerry

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's on the irish times website KingdomBoy1
I think it was Shane Curran I'm not 100% sure but Basically it says that Horan is as tactically poor and it was the players passion that got them out of jail, says Mayo are a great side though!

Not you belmay obviously, but it was an interesting take on the match and the Gaelic Grounds fiasco in general.

cuederocket

Interesting to see most posters on here are real supportive and knowledgeable of the rules.I dont care what the rule says, there is no way what Keegan did merited a red card.It was pathetic. The rule has to change, whereby a silly, feeble, petulent throw of the leg,or slap of a hand, merits a yellow as opposed to a red.It was, perhaps, the softest red card i have ever seen.As everyone seems to be an expert on the rule book,i say the law,in this case,is an ass, supported by a few stubborn donkeys.

And what would you change the rule to cuederocket? Something like: "A player who attempts to kick or punch an opponent shall only be sent off he makes solid contact and injures the other player". Or better still: "The referee shall ignore the rule book and make it up as he goes along. He should base all decisions on "common sense" and use his gut instinct to decide what is right and wrong. In the event of any disagreement with the referee's interpretation of common sense, cuederocket shall have the final say".

Is this the shane curran whose best effort at tactics in the club semi final were to lie down on the ground long enough for the game to be abandoned because of diminishing daylight? A tactical heavyweight alright...

People seem to be saying that Kerry have shown the full hand etc and have no trick up the sleeve for Saturday. I found it unusual that nobody seems the be discussing the fact that the Mayo Full back line fell apart when Kerry went direct on Sunday. Kerry scored 1-2 in 4minutes when they played the ball in direct. Surely worth a mention.

Horan does appear to be tactically weak whichever way you slice it. The world and his wife would have moved a big man to Donaghy for the closing minutes. He was brought on for one thing and one thing only and Mayos full back line have form under the high ball, as I so fondly remember. :-)

Horan is poor on the sideline he does make some odd decisions during the game, id be very worried abou donaghy the next day and plus when they finally did take off cafferky 'who was cramping before donaghy came on' they brought on kevin keane who isnt up to county football never mind to mark donaghy

I mean masterminding a 10 point swing with 14 men against a team of the class of Kerry is junior b standard management...

As for donaghy, he actually came on in midfield and done ok out there. He went in for the last couple of balls. Also, the ball in for the goal was exceptional. He would have caught that ball of every full back in the country because it suited him perfectly. They threw him on against Dublin last year and the balls that went in were suiting the defender, that is just the luck of it sometimes. People get carried away with things sometimes. Ger Cafferkey marked Michael Murphy out of it, twice. He hasn't become hopeless in the air overnight.

That wasn't even Cafferkys ball. Should have been Hennellys. Outrushing goalie should take Donaghy out of it and get a free for himself also.
Cafferky worked best with a goalie who backed him up. Clarke isn't afraid to come out and take the pressure off his fullbacks. Hennelly shits a brick under a high ball. He should have knocked Brogans and Cafferkys heads into the Davin Stand in last years final.

Unlikely they will message you on it. If they replay, the game will be on in Dublin. There is no American football the following weekend.

Cafferkey is an excellent full back normally up there with McGee , Reilly and O'Carroll , he done a job on donaghy in 2011 semi and DIDNT GIVE Geaney much on Sunday , so he can mark different types of full forwrad , was out on his feet when Donaghy was making his impact on the match

I'd start Freeman again at full forward on Sunday and have Andy Moran as an impact sub , a role he nailed on Sunday , i also think Mayos forwrad line is in a lot better shape than this time last year , Dillons new role suits him more as he doesnt have the legs for wing forward any more as seen in last years final , McLoughlin in better form this year despite poor game last Sunday , Doherty most improved player and O'Connor has come on a lot as well , his contributution from open play has improved 10 fold , Aidan O'Shea revelling in new role and also means Mayo now have a more agile midfiled
